Reviewed by Michelle Stanley for Readers' Favorite “You never know what may prevail around each bend of a Twisted Trail” - James Huble. An apt quote for the author’s book, Twisted Trails: A Collection of 18 Western Short Stories, Each With a “Twist.” In Rio del Oro - “You swim in river, stand up, clothes covered with gold,” were the words of an Apache that lured gold hunters Caleb and his friends into the river. Unfortunately, they chose to ignore his other words. El Hombre del Muerte is what people call Martel, a ruthless bounty hunter who always collected the reward on wanted men under suspicious circumstances. In The Hard Luck Kid, a young man does his best to commit robberies like his idol, Jesse James, but his impatience and inexperience constantly botch his plans. Second Chance is what a gunslinger gets after he loses his memory, but old habits are not easily forgotten and the urge to shoot is one of them. Twisted Trails is a delightful read. All the stories are witty with very imaginative plots and appealing characters that will keep you amused. I admire author James Huble with his laid-back writing style and the spicy sense of humour blended into each fast-paced story, especially their endings. It would be difficult selecting one to be my favourite since they were all very good. If you like westerns, I suggest James Huble’s Twisted Trails to keep you entertained.
