About the Author

Brian Ó Conchubhair is an Associate Professor in the Department of Irish Language & Literature at the University of Notre Dame. His monograph on the intellectual history of the Irish language revival, Fin de Siècle na Gaeilge: Darwin, An Athbheochan agus Smaointeoireacht na hEorpa (CIC, 2009) received the 2009 Oireachtas na Gaeilge non-fiction award and the 2010 Foras Na Gaeilge/American Conference for Irish Studies Book Award. A second monograph on Modernism and the Irish language is in progress. He has edited Gearrscéalta Ár Linne (CIC, 2006), WHY IRISH? Irish Language and Literature in Academia (Arlen House, 2008) and The Midnight Court / Cúirt an Mheán Oíche: A Critical Edition (Syracuse University Press, 2011). He was Series Editor for the new editions of Kerry’s Fighting Story 1916-1921, Rebel Cork’s Fighting Story 1916-1921, Limerick’s Fighting Story 1916-1921, and Dublin’s Fighting Story 1916-1921 (Mercier, 2009). He has published 19 articles and essays on such authors and topics as Pádraic Ó Conaire, Cathal Ó Searcaigh, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, Liam Ó Flatharta, John Ford, Michelle Smith, translation, the Irish novel, cultural memory, An Gúm, the Gaelic font and the Gaelic Athletic Association. Ó Conchubhair organized Fulbright FLTA Orientation workshops on campus from 2006-2011 and hosted the 2010 Annual meeting of the North American Conference of Celtic Studies. He has served on the Executive Committee of the American Conference for Irish Studies and the Celtic Studies Association of North America.
