Overview

Buddy Griffin, a recently retired homicide detective, returns to his hometown of Elmore, Texas to attend a high-school reunion and becomes embroiled in a murder investigation when his high school sweetheart finds her husband, the president of the local bank, shot dead in their swimming pool.

Rumors of the dead man's infidelities lead Buddy to a missing female bank teller and a safe deposit box full of dirty money linked to the local mob. As he digs deeper, Buddy discovers the real motive for the murder may stem from a struggle for control of a twenty-year-old videotape of a United States Senator with an underage prostitute. And, he stirs up trouble when he pays a visit to a crime boss with a connection to the case. Buddy is forced to broker a deal with the devil to prevent more innocent people from being killed.

Two Bits Four Bits is a mystery set in the flat dry landscape of West Texas where the horizon is defined by pump jacks and oilfield equipment instead of trees and hills, and blackmail is a game best left to professionals.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The grammer and format were correct, and the story was suspenseful. We were pleasantly surprised as it was a free book. Get it and enjoy !

Once you get into the story it is very good and hard to put down. One thing that I appreciated, beside the story, was that it was clean of sex and foul language. I'd like to read moore by this author.

I really enjoyed this book. I will be looking for more in the future. Very well written and edited. Characters and situations very believeable (I am from the Permian Basin) and well told story. You won't want to put it down till finished.

This book took lots of turns and had some funny parts, like putting a PI office inside free space in a Mexican Restaurant. It was one of those books that you can put down and go back to without a thought, a little long in places but overall a good book.

Nice paced mystery. Nice details of surrounding scenery. No sex scenes so alright for teenage readers.

I was very surprised at how well the book was. Both my hubby and I thought it was well thought out, great plot, fantastic character building and development, and loved the climax! I wouldn't mind reading Buddy in a few more stories!

450 pages, free, well edited except for some minor grammer glitches, no sex, no cursing, no religion, hardly any gore, some interesting twists and 95% of the subplots as well as the plot resolved, a dab of romance, humor and is basically beleavable, what more could a male or female mystery reader ask for? Recommended. For ages 16 and up, if mature, 18 if not. AD

Buddy Griffin goes home for a class reunion and gets involved in solving a murder.  He is a retired police officer, but his investigative skills seem a bit lacking.  Some of the characters are not well developed and it seemed they were added as an after thought. Not as much action as I like and it was easy to figure out "whodunit" way before the book ended. However, was an ok read and I’m happy to have gotten it free.

Vulgar, offensive language. Hate it when an author ruins a good plot with such language. Deleted it.

Kept me turning the pages. Good mystery, well written, likeable characters.

One of the best "new" authors I've read. Uses facts to embellish this fictional work.
