    Well written

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The grammer and format were correct, and the story was suspenseful.
We were pleasantly surprised as it was a free book. Get it and enjoy !

    Very Good Story

Once you get into the story it is very good and hard to put down. One thing that I appreciated, beside the story, was that it was clean of sex and foul language. I'd like to read moore by this author.

    Recommend for a soft read

This book took lots of turns and had some funny parts, like putting a PI office inside free space in a Mexican Restaurant. It was one of those books that you can put down and go back to without a thought, a little long in places but overall a good book.

    Wouldn't recommend

Vulgar, offensive language. Hate it when an author ruins a good plot with such language. Deleted it.

Well crafted small Texas murder story

The story centers around Buddy Griffin, a retired bigger city homicide detective returning home to a small Texas town for a class reunion to find his high school sweetheart’s husband murdered the evening of the reunion. Kandy Chilton asks her former boyfriend for help solve her husband’s murder and the story evolves from there.
Part of the story challenges the premise you can never go home again. As the story starts, you learn Buddy is divorced and the possibility of resuming a romance with Kandy may evolve. But like all good fiction in this genre, the story moves in different directions, not the least of which is Kandy the affluent woman ain’t the same girl he knew in high school. .
The author creates a number of characters, old high school buddies, a possible new love interest and the structure of criminal organization in the area of this small Texas town. These characters could be used if the author wanted to create a series character.
There were a couple of odd bits however. Three retired geezers were in several scenes but their presence didn’t move the plot along. Also a couple of scenes involving his daughter which didn’t go anywhere. Perhaps the author needed to add them for setting detail in the case of the geezers or to add back story for Buddy.
The story could also use more conflict for Buddy. An angry ex-wife, a defiant daughter, more physical threat to Buddy would add a bit.
Overall, the story works for me and is a good read.

    Good

450 pages, free, well edited except for some minor grammer glitches, no sex, no cursing, no religion, hardly any gore, some interesting twists and 95% of the subplots as well as the plot resolved, a dab of romance, humor and is basically beleavable, what more could a male or female mystery reader ask for? Recommended. For ages 16 and up, if mature, 18 if not.

Buddy Griffin goes home for a class reunion and gets involved in

Buddy Griffin goes home for a class reunion and gets involved in solving a murder.  He is a retired police officer, but his investigative skills seem a bit lacking.  Some of the characters are not well developed and it seemed they were added as an after thought. Not as much action as I like and it was easy to figure out "whodunit" way before the book ended. However, was an ok read and I’m happy to have gotten it free.

One of the best "new" authors I've read. Uses facts to embellish this fictional work.
