Overview

Richard returns to Brown University for sophomore year with hopes to maintain his grades, propel the soccer team to victory, make new friends, and revive a failed relationship after its breakup. While he wants to revive his fantasy for love, he instead confronts dashed hopes.

Richard recalls his last time together with Selene, his flame of freshman year, in New York City, with love assured, as he climbs aboard the train home. The relationship looks t be forever until she refuses to explain her mysterious breakup. Without her, he is isolated in a loneliness that spins beyond control in his search for new love.

The enigmatic mystery of the moon figures prominently into his misguided fantasy for love, his scrapes with social dorm friends, and a professor that wants to mentor him. Richard uses his youthful energy to invent pranks to sublimate his loneliness, contract for sex in a comical relationship, get tricked by a girl to consummate her love with him, and decode the mystery for why Selene rejected his love.

The moon touches Richard in ways to stretch his fantasy. Confusing his puzzling rejection of love with self-doubt, he makes new friends while coping with a legacy of religious and racial bigotry, sexual conflict, friends in trouble, and violence that tempers his self-assurance. This is a journey of discovery to forge individual paths through life while measuring materialistic values against heroic self-sacrifice.

“A comic romp through the battle of the sexes...”
