Meet the Author

Raised in California, Laura likes it hot, which explains why she ended up in Arizona via such diverse places as Japan, Maine, and Florida, and many more places in between. After retiring from the US Navy, she found a niche working for land management agencies, including the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Though she has held many jobs around the world, her favorite was working and living in Grand Canyon National Park. Working (and eating) in New Orleans was a close second. You will find many of her books are set against the rich backdrops provided by coastal Louisiana and northern Arizona. When asked how she started writing, Laura tells of waking on Boxing Day a few years ago, with a woman named Elena MacFarland yammering in her dreams, demanding her story be told. Despite never attempting to write fiction before that morning, Laura ignored all of the holiday visitors and the Highland Destiny series was born. She doesn’t believe it was a coincidence that the great grandmother who died when Laura was just a baby was named Elena MacFarland. Destiny does play a hand.Laura became a full-time writer in 2012, and now she spends her time writing, watching her Arizona Diamondbacks, and working on her very own version of the Willow Springs Ranch in northwestern Arizona. She is a multi-published author of erotic romance, mystery, and urban fantasy and her books can be found at all major online retailers.

    4.5 Stars

This book is one of the few books that while reading has brought tears to my eyes. I actually had to put the book down because I was so upset about what Ty had been through. Let me tell you, it was horrible and I so wish I could tell you, but I don’t want to give anything away.
Just because I’m saying that it made me cry doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t read this book. It is a great book and you should read it.
While this book was on the shorter end of what I had been reading recently, it was still a really good read to me. I loved the idea of the ranch that everyone is welcome there and they don’t care about a person’s sexuality. I also enjoyed how the book was not completely about that. There was more to the story than a bunch of hot sexy cowboys getting it on with each other.
Cass’s character, although what you do see of him, he was really nice and sweet, but I wish we would have been able to learn more about his past and history. We learn a lot of the big things that Ty had been through that have shaped him into who he is. But you don’t learn that much about Cass.
An issue that I had was with Roy. I felt really let down because I had hoped we would be able to find out more about him and Gibby since Gibby was such a big influence in Ty’s life. It seemed like after the beginning of the story, Roy just disappeared.
But even taking all that into consideration, I still think this was a great book and it was a must read from me.

    Very good m/m story

Tyler is returning from his third tour in war and was discharged and slowly recovering. His friend/father like figure invited him to a ranch to recover and re-evaluate his life. When Ty arrives he is greated with the owner Cass who was helping someone be airlifted off the ranch. Cass takes ty inside and explains that his friend/father figure was in the helicoppter and had a heart attack and died. This throws Ty to the deep end and he has a spell. Cass takes him to his room and puts him to bed. The bond between the two grows as they support each other through this new journey. Very good view into what a m/m relationship is like. Kristy D

    Good free read

Good characters, unrealistic setting. The relationship was a little too fast, but the emotions felt true. Good free read.

Great story of recovery from PTSS and the need for everyone searching for the real "me" to have someone to lean on and love.
