    Thankfully, the Dutch love and respect design heritage.

    There are quite a few attempts to honor and illustrate the design, craft and business of typesetting and letterpress printing, but this volume and its successor, Volume II are quite special. Not only is the author's collection wonderful to view, but it is presented and published in a surprisingly successful manner, given how hard it can be to essentially "copy" documents from the past with any real definition. We American designers are thankful to the Dutch designers, especially, for their always beautiful contributions to the art of publication design and to Taschen for publishing books that are consistently affordable. These should be in every designer's library, and perhaps for anyone loving letter forms and print for any reason as well.
