Overview

Typhoon is Conrad’s classic sea yarn that describes how Captain MacWhirr sails the Siamese steamer Nan-Shan into a typhoon—a mature tropical cyclone of the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean. The novel classically evokes the sea-faring life at the turn of the century. While Macwhirr is emotionally estranged from his family and crew, and though he refuses to consider an alternate course to skirt the typhoon, his indomitable will in the face of a superior natural force elicits grudging admiration. The classic novel has been formatted for optimal viewing on the Nook and is equipped with an active Table of Contents for smooth and simple navigation!

This story has everything: character who jump off the page, clearer than life, and the best description of a ship and her crew enduring a terrific storm. My favorite Conrad.

Conrad's masterpiece chronicles the doomed voyage of a steamer in the Indian ocean. It is full of excitement and danger, but is most successful in its portrayal of the personalities and struggles of the captain and his mate. Of all of Conrad's works, this is my favorite.
