Overview

“I don’t do nice. Period.” -Kilter (nickname: Off-Kilter)

Kilter is crass, reckless and stubborn. He has alienated everyone—just the way he likes it. Until the day he meets Rayne and emotions he buried long ago reawaken.

“I was nothing but a science experiment.” -Rayne

Rayne has been locked away and used for research ever since she was a child. The abuse caused her to withdraw into a tomb of numbness where she’s found a safe place to hide. But her safe place isn’t safe at all, it’s slowly killing her.
When Kilter rescues her and she is unexpectedly drawn to his raw honesty, Rayne must decide whether to trust him and fight for what she can’t see or drown into the depths of darkness.

For some Scars, it’s the story of healing and redemption, for others it’s the beginning of a tortured existence. Which will it be for Kilter and Rayne?

A band of fierce warriors walk in the shadows of the human world with capabilities derived from the senses: Trackers, Sounders, Healers, Tasters, Visionaries and the rare Reflectors. They are known as the ‘Scars.

Love love LOVE this series. Kilters story has a history of heartbreak which makes him seem cold, and up until he met her he probably was, but she brings out the good in him that was always just beneath the surface. Their story alone would have been five stars, but you add in the other characters and lots of twists and turns and you are left with a five star plus book.

Ok, let me start by saying I love this author. I love this series. It is a lot to keep track of because it's a whole new world she is bringing to life. That said - this one (while the story itself was great) had too much going on. I began to lose track of who was who and what was happening. Too many story lines. I get why it was done this way and how they tied together. But it just got to be pretty confusing at times. I will absolutely buy anything she ever writes. I've read all of her books. I just think this one got a little bogged down with too many stories at once. I know part of it is introducing story lines that will be in next book, but it really was a bit too many things happening at one time. However, I cannot wait to read Delara and Waleron's story. I've been waiting for this since the beginning!

Tyrant by Nashoda Rose Well deserved 3.5 stars! This story is unique, interesting, angsty, and I found myself needing to know how it ended. Once again, there are many different players in this book and many get their own point of view. The transition between the different voices and characters helped keep my attention. It was almost like reading a book within a book, but the inner-book just added to the main plot. This book focuses on the relationship between Kilter and Rayne. Kilter is brash, distant and broken from his past. After finding a savior, Rayne has to decide if she wants to survive and, if so, how to move forward after an abrupt turn of events. Both Kilter and Rayne are very much broken in their own unique ways. Finding how their broken pieces fit together just might be what saves them both.

Absolutely LOVED Kilter's story. Although this is the second time I've read it. (Please note that this story has been published before, as Step (Senses Series), but it has been rewritten and is even better this time around. And please, you must read Stygian before reading Tyrant or you will be lost!!! Kilter!!! What can I say except that there is just so much there!!! He's growly and closed-off, says what he means and means what he says, and he could care less what anyone thinks about that until Rayne. He has been through so much in the many years he's been alive, thinking his clan had broken his trust. But when he rescues Rayne he knows he needs help, without it she may die. Rayne. Wow, there are so many things about her that will shock the reader. Although in the beginning her character may seem weak and broken we soon see that there is a core strength about her that should have been completely broken. I absolutely loved watching her come back. One of the best things about this series is that, while each book focuses on specific couples, we get to meet so many diverse characters. Can't wait until the next book!!!! This will be Belara and Waleron's story. SO MUCH story there!!
