Overview

The UFO phenomenon remains one of the most persistent and perplexing mysteries of modern times. Encounters have occurred for centuries, and reports continue to come from around the world every year. UFOs and Aliens describes the exciting history of supposed extraterrestrial activity on planet Earth. The book documents such famous cases as that of the Washington Nationals; UFO landings and abductions, including the case of the Hopkinsville "goblins"; the enduring mystery of what crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947; and much more. Everything from infamous hoaxes, to alien implants, to government cover-ups is documented here with the best evidence available, so that readers can decide what may be fact and what is, indeed, science fiction.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Barbara L. Talcroft
The "Mysteries, Legends, and Unexplained Phenomena" series for young adults is written from the perspective that, although occult phenomena cannot be explained or proved, they do exist. Starting with a Foreword by "one of the foremost authorities on the paranormal," this volume cites pictures and written accounts through the ages to prove that humans have always seen unidentified flying objects. Modern sightings of glowing aircraft seem to be clustered mainly in the nineteen-forties through the sixties, when they start to give way to claims of actual abductions by aliens. The author relates numerous reports from varied places, most of which are remote areas (e.g., Australia's Nullabor Plain, Brush Creek, California, Manitoban wilderness). He also notes that witnesses have reported seeing aliens of several distinct types, illustrated here in a drawing. The abduction reports are disturbing. Victims say they lose consciousness, and remember details only later under hypnosis. The crash of an UFO in 1947 near Roswell, Arizona, has led to continuing controversy and the belief that the U.S. government is covering up evidence of alien landings. Some UFO enthusiasts say that secret experiments are going on at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and on a secret installation in Nevada. What are teens to make of all this? Dennett offers guidelines for investigating UFOs and instructions for reporting sightings. While some claims have been exposed as hoaxes, the author concludes that UFOs undoubtedly exist. He admits, though, that for the time being, their origins remain a mystery. Reviewer: Barbara L. Talcroft

A good alien/UFO book for teenagers. It describes well-known cases and covers cover ups, implants, abductions, and even hoaxes. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to know more about aliens or UFOs.
