Brilliant, But Maddening
Scott Westerfeld is a great author who is an absolute genius for writing a series such as Uglies. It is a truly original story that will suck you right in. Unfortunately, when you do get sucked in, you might start to get incredibly angry with the stupidity of the characters. They're all very well-written characters, it's just that they make tons of stupid decisions that made me feel like yelling and screaming at the printed words on the page. I suppose that's a good thing, that a book can be realistic enough to make a reader feel an emotion such as anger, but often those kinds of books are ones that I don't want to re-read. I sort of suffered through the whole series with an angry knot in my stomach because I just needed to know how it would end. Again, a great read plot-wise, but let me just say that if Tally Youngblood were a real person, I'm pretty sure I would hate her.
