Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Praise for DAVID GETS IN TROUBLE:
"That irrepressible fellow with the Charlie Brown head is back, trailing a whole new slew of disasters in his wake. This memorable character is nothing short of a force of nature, from his scribbled eyes and hair to his shark-sharp teeth." --Publishers Weekly STARRED, 6/24/2002.

"Disarming as he always is-what a blessing he lives on the page and not in our lives." --Kirkus Reviews, 08/01/2002.

"The contemporary stylistic art is just right for depicting the boy's antics and his high-energy personality." --School Library Journal STARRED, 09/01/2002.

"The humor is always in the art--huge, full-color paintings with plenty of heft that fill up the page. Shannon's artwork is deceptively simple, always centered on the snaggletoothed David."--Booklist STARRED, 09/01/2002.

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
A distinctly grumpy David stares at an empty breakfast plate ignoring the "good for him" glass of orange juice nearby. Then he dashes out of the house naked (as shown from a back view). When David gets to school, he enthusiastically participates in "Show and Yell." After school, the shards of a broken window give evidence that David has thrown something through it. A double-page spread shows David producing "Fine Art" on a household wall. A playground scene offers opportunities for more mischief. David's mouth opens wide to encompass lots of foods. His day ends in bed with a wish for sweet dreams. About a hundred different stickers are included in the center pages of the book and the illustrations on each page have large open spaces inviting children to complete the pictures as they wish. They can place foods on David's breakfast plate, dress him in jeans and a tee shirt, decide what he is sharing in front of his classroom, place "art" on the wall, fill his mouth with food items, and provide images for his dreams. A fun book for an adult to share with an individual child. Part of the "A David Sticker Book" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
