Overview

Twenty-seven humorous vignettes are cleverly captioned illustrations designed to help parents and kids cope with the challenges of toilet training. Toddlers will laugh when they see Mark picking out a potty at the toy store. And back at home, Toby didn't quite make it to the potty this time. He'll have better luck next time. Jordon waits till the last minute too-but hooray! We see him in the bathroom, and we know he made it on time. Alison is proud because she uses a grown-up toilet, and Amanda reads a picture book when she sits on her potty. Neither parents nor children need to take potty training too seriously, because sooner or later, everything works out just fine. That's the message at the heart of Bob McGrath's cheerful book-and boys and girls will enjoy seeing their own potty experiences repeated on these pages.

Twenty-seven vignettes showing a variety of experiences of many different children during the toilet training process.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-McGrath, of Sesame Street fame, offers a different sort of toilet-training book. Unlike other stories that follow an individual through the process, or factual books written for parents to discuss toilet teaching, Uh Oh! shows approximately 20 children, each accompanied by a sentence describing a potty experience. "Kuniko loves to flush." "Peter stands up like a big man." There's not much plot to speak of, but there's plenty of down-to-toddler level humor and springboards for discussion. The final page has a place for a child's photo with a sentence about using the potty "just like all my friends." The watercolor-and-ink cartoons are loaded with details, humor, and happy faces. The small size is just right for this audience. A welcome addition if books on this topic are requested.-Sharon R. Pearce, San Antonio Public Library, TX

    Love this one!

My 2 1/2 year old loves this book. We are potty training and it has helped us to both have a little sense of humor through the experience. He recites some of it during the day - even when he doesn't have the book with him! 'Kuniko loves to flush'.

A LITTLE LESS FUN THAN I THOUGHT

The title got me. I thought the book was going to tell a story about Uh Oh! Gotta Go! Which seems like a very catchy phrase a child can use. It does not even use it once. I wish I would have not chosen this book.
