Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Like a house of cards or row of dominos, dropping a sippy cup of milk starts a chain reaction. Dad is in charge of breakfast and he gives his son a cup of milk—in the illustration, the top does not look very secure—and when the young boy accidentally drops it, not only does it hit the floor, but it splashes on the cat. The cat in turn jumps into a basket of yarn and it crashes into a chair and then the cereal on the table and the juice spill over, too. The young boy is delighted at the mayhem and Dad is not exactly thrilled about the cleanup job. Finally, it is done and he serves his son a dish of applesauce and, here we go again. It is amusing and it has undoubtedly happened in some form with most parents and young children. However, we would not want to give little ones any ideas—so the emphasis needs to be on the accidental dropping of the milk cup and the dish full of applesauce. The illustrations are soft toned and do not contain a lot of detail, but certainly enough to show expressions and all the events. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
