The first string we tried to tune broke? The false advertising

The first string we tried to tune broke? The false advertising on the
box says "two sets of strings included". when in fac only two
strings were included, and neither were the one we needed. I ave one
very disappointed 13 year old who had spent her own money on this product.

Nice Sound, Decent Book, Terrible Strings

This ukulele has a nice sound, but the strings are incredibly crummy: One broke immediately when I went to tune it, and one of the spare strings broke just being taken out of its bag. (It comes with only two spare strings, and they're both the same gauge.) The book that comes with it seems okay so far--I'll have to buy a new set of strings in order to be able to try it out.

DO NOT buy this.  Everything people have been saying is true. You have to do a bend the string upward on the fret before the actual fret in order to play a c chord, and anything else is just impossible.  "Learn the Hawaiian Classic"? Impossible on this piece of junk. Unless you just want to hang this toy on the wall as a decoration, don't even bother. I honestly can't believe that Barnes and Noble can even sell something this low quality. I'd give it -10 stars

VERY VERY disappointing. I wanted something simple for a beginner, just to get the feel of the instrument and have a better idea of whether or not it would
be something I wanted to pursue long term. I thought I was buying an actual instruments, but this is more of a child's toy instrument that is
well suited for a preschool music class, or even just as a display only item for decorating a music room. The first string I tried to tune broke,
plus there was only 1 replacement string included in the pack instead of 2, and it was not even for the string that broke.
I wish I could return this product. I feel like I have been robbed. The next day I went out to a music store to get
something reliable. I feel very upset that I spent my hard earned money on this product instead of being able to just use it on
the new ukulele I bout afterwards. Because of this experience, I am now going to exclusively shop at amazon, so I can review everything before I buy.
I even spent an extra $71 on books the same day I bought this Ukulele and I am so upset about this bad product that I am considering returning the books and getting the same ones from
AMAZON just on principle. I will never give your business my money again.
This is one of the worst, most pointless purchases I ever made. I wish I could give it less than 1 star.

Cheap ukulele. The strings are horrible. Ukulele strings are supposed to be nylon, but these were metal.
Not only that, my chords sounded horrible, because the strings were off by half a step despite being in tune.
You need to restring it with real nylon ukulele strings to get it to sound right.

I have bought this for myself. I know how to play guitar and so I just want to know how to play ukulele as well. This is really for beginners. Don't buy it with high expectations. For $31, this is actually a decent buy. You'll enjoy this ukulele more if you change the stock strings with good uke string like Aquila Nylgut Strings, which costs around $7.

Don't buy it unless you want it only as a toy for very small child

The frets were in the wrong place so almost impossible to tune. If you want a child to learn to play it - you will be causing great frustration. Producing an in-tune chord is impossible.

This seems to be more of a novelty toy than a real instrument.

This seems to be more of a novelty toy than a real instrument.  As others have said, it comes equipped with strings that are meant for tuning the 4th string to a low G (as opposed to the standard  higher  G) - which may explain why many of these reviews complain of a broken string.  Even worse was the fact that the ukulele I received had a full step difference between playing the open strings and playing the first fret of each string.  In other words, there is a missing fret which means this was impossible to play properly .

The Uke itself seems okay and the book seems good, but it comes

The Uke itself seems okay and the book seems good, but it comes equipted for low-G tuning (where the G string is lower than the C) which is not standard- standard has the G higher than the C. So when you go to use whatever tuning tool for ukes you have, you can't match that G with the string that's in it. And there is no extra set of strings, just an extra A string. So... I guess I have to go buy new strings. Also the screws on the back are already stripped because the screwdriver included is too small for them :-/

Wish I could return it - purchased as a gift for my son and it won't stay tuned for anything. Horrible. :( We spend forever tuning it, he picks it up, strums for a few seconds, and it's woefully out of tune.

I mistakenly thought I was buying a real instrument, but would really only classify this as a toy at this point.
