Samuel Willard Crompton is the author of more than a dozen books. He lives in western Massachusetts, where he teaches both American history and Western civilization. His lifelong interest in maritime and conservation matters helped earn him a certificate in Historic Conservation and Preservation and he has studied nautical history on an informal basis for several years.
Michael J. Rhein grew up in Germany, was educated in London, and has worked as an editor specializing in history and geography for publishers in both London and New York. A full-time writer for the last two decades, he is the author of twenty previous books, and has contributed to educational reference works. He is also a keen mariner and has sailed competitively for many years.
