All Music Guide - Ron Wynn
This was the definitive album Teena Marie was never allowed to do while at Motown. She not only zoomed up the R&B charts, but even had a pop smash with "Lovergirl," and suddenly Motown executives went scrambling for cover. "Mr. Dear Mr. Gaye" was one of the better tribute songs done to Gaye, although it didn't generate the attention it deserved for Marie. The album wound up being Marie's most successful.

White Lady Sings True R&B and Soul!

The talented artist, Miss. Teena Marie has not received the credit or recognition that she deserves as a gifted songtress. Although not credited with having a string of #1 Hits under her belt, she is truly a great and ''must listen to'' singer of our times. This Lady can hypnotically deliver a tune so smooth, so tantalizing that a Janet, Whitney, or Madonna can only dream about. Her vocal range and deliverance are evident on my favorite songs of all times such as ''If I Were A Bell,'' ''Portuguese Love,'' and ''Out On A Limb.'' Teena's duo talent can also be heard on the R&B favorite ''Fire and Desire'' with R&B ole' school Bad Boy, Rick James. I look forward to hearing more great music by this talented artist.
