    Subpar art held this back!

Aunt May's super-teen boarding house continues as Johnny Storm and Bobby Drake live with Peter Parker, not to mention his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. All this plus Kitty Pryde and Mary Jane Watson still in the picture makes for some supreme high school drama. Aunt May is great in this whole book and she shows a few different emotions that make perfect sense. Peter is often clueless but means well. The addition of all these other characters do add new angles but also take away from Peter's time on panel. This trade was basically three different parts, Rick Jones, Kitty Pryde, & the Chameleon. The three storylines didn't gel well together and the first two didn't read like Spider-Man stories. The reimagining of the Chameleon was really good to me (but my daughter didn't like it). The main drawback in this trade for me was the art, first by Takeshi Miyazawa and then the bulk by David Lafuente. The art looked so geared towards little kids to me. Peter looked very feminine almost all the time and Iceman looked very odd when iced up. I just was taken aback by how much it was taking me out of the story. I know Mark Bagley returns in the next arc and that is great news. Overall, this is a decent but far from great book with some interesting plotlines.
