This book is the ultimate Father's Day gift. I recommend that everyone buy copies for their husbands, sons and fathers. In fact, I hope a lot of men read this book, as we desperately need gentlemen again; we need real men again. This is a fun, inspiring, info-packed read that outlines the skills and demeanor of the outdoorsman, the gentleman, the hero, the man's man; not a chauvinist clown, but a chivalric adventurer. From profiles of real men such as Tecumseh and Floyd Patterson to the fighting skills from UFC champ Matt Hughes to the greatest codes of honor ever written, there's something in its pages for everyone. I love its guide to cigars and that it notes that Mark Twain said, "I haven't a particle of confidence in a man who has no redeeming petty vices." This isn't some sissified, metrosexual, politically correct man's guide. This is the guide for every man; in fact, guys, if you want to do better with us, be the man outlined in this book.

The ultimate guide.

Don't pass this one up. It's got just about everything a guy needs in order to survice, either in the wilderness or in the city. I found it extremely helpful and really entertaining at the same time.

Great Book on Survival

This book is not only fun to read but also educational. You will lean important skills that might get you out of a scrape or save your life (or the life of someone you love). Don't leave home without first reading Frank's new book!

This Book is Far More than what you might expect

This book is how you teach important survival lessons: Make it interesting, even fun; and make it relevant to everyone. Too many "survival" books are dull texts that few have the time or patience to read until they actually need the advice. By then it's too late. Miniter's book, in contrast, is fun and entertaining, and makes survival a fascinating topic. Whether you're lost in the wilderness or trying to survive a potentially awkward social situation, this book prepares you to emerge with your image and self-confidence not only intact, but enhanced. (We all should have learned that goal from watching James Bond, Jimmy Stewart or Clint Eastwood.) Overview of being a man

It is sad, in a way, that this book is even necessary. These are things that fathers teach thier sons. But with so many absent fathers in so many families, some of these things may never have been learned. Saying that, this book does a good job of teaching a wide range of things. For instance, there are better survival books, but this is a good overview of all subjects.

Yes!

So... there ARE others out there who feel like I do - and who have the skill to write what we believe. Political correctness be damned - being a man is about Honor and Duty. This is a very enjoyable read. Lots of useful information as well as a bit of "gee whiz" stuff. As another reviewer stated, this is not a "macho man" book, but a book that will make you think. I especially appreciated each "Portrait of a Man" sprinkled throughout the book - mini biographies of notable men. And then there are the moral codes and... well, just too much to list here. I am very satisfied with this book.

Well rounded and educational

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not what I expected, but better. Breezed through it, and appreciated the fact that it gives you a well rounded foundation. After reading I gave it to my son in law, so he can pass it on to my grand son. My wife and daughter enjoyed it equally. I would highly recommend it, because it is not just about being macho.

A guide for the modern man.

I must admit the title is what caught my interest in this book but after a few minutes examination I decided to buy it. If you are the type who would be more likely to go out without your pants that without a pocket knife, this book is for you. I especially liked the sections on the philosopher, and continuing your manly education.

Everyone will learn something from this book. Things that might save your life or someone else's.

This book was fantastic. I learned some very useful things, like how to start fires in the wild, no matches or lighter fluid. Just wood, elbow grease, and a little know how. I also learned how to make a tourniquet, how to fend off a bear attack, and make a temporary dwelling in the snow. I am planning a camping trip this fall and haven't gone before, so I plan to have this book with me along with the Army Survival Guide just in case.
I know that you will enjoy this book and find at least one thing useful so give it a try.
