    Decent

So Ultimate Spider-Man is now in the hands of Stuart Immonen now that Bagley is gone. Immonen's artwork is good but I think he should stick to illustrating the New Avengers. There's something about Bagley's artwork that makes the characters pop out at me when I move panel to panel. Bendis however keeps it interesting starting the book with the Osborns' neverending drama with Peter Parker. Then going old school with Ultimate Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends and finally ending with the worst day in Spider-Man's life.

    I Miss Mark Bagley

One of the things I loved about this series was the writing by Brian Michael Bendis matched with the expressive style of penciler, Mark Bagley. Volume 10 is the first full-year cycle with Bagley's replacement, Stuart Immonen. I miss Bagley's faces and eyes the most. Each frame said so much. Stuart Immonen has stayed true to the gangly teenagers, particularly, Peter Parker, that make U.S. so cool and believable. Nerdy high school age super heroes should not look like buff college kids, that's one of the endearing deals with Ultimate Spiderman. Most of the facial expressions Immonen draws are a little squinty and jagged compared to Bagely. It's going to take some getting used to for me. Kind of like losing your favorite teacher and adjusting to a new one. It takes a year or so for the job filler to find their niche and footing before the class becomes their own. That's the deficiency I get with Volume 10 right now. That first year of limbo. Grrrrr...... I'm curious to see how Immonen grows into U.S. The story line has some fun twists. Bendis puts his spin on my favorite childhood Saturday cartoon, Spider-man and Friends, where Spidey teams up with Iceman and Firestar. It's a fun and nostalgic read.
