It's happened before... Much as we would rather think all is well - we know it isn't. Learn how to be prepared for the disastrous period of economic adjustment that is rapidly approaching.

The author gives good advice that everyone can put to good use! This book contains useful information on how to preserve purchasing power and on how to prepare for many disasters, whether natural or man-made. Useful to prepare ahead for facing long periods of unemployment. Or even to help fund a planned sabbatical.

While it's scary to think that major disruption could happen here, my European friends who survived night-marish scenarios in their homeland assure me that they do see the stage being set for the same things to happen right here in the USA. They've been preparing for some time, and have a copy of this book. They have nothing but praise for its content. In fact, they are using some of the author's advice - just like I am.

The warning signs are there. We are closing schools, laying off our fire and public safety personnel, closing post offices, and DMVs. We are even cutting back in our public works departments, and either cutting back or eliminating public transportation. Fuel prices are rising again. Checking in with friends across the USA confirms that this is happening all over the country. What's next - part-time utilities and food shortages?

My European friends said they survived their sitution because - among other things - they lived in a very small, simple cottage on the edge of the town where they used to work. There was a garden, a few chickens, and they also were able to hunt and fish.

I do agree with the author that it's better to be prepared for the unexpected and unwelcome event than to be taken by surprise.

If it turns out I can use my preparations for a purpose that is more fun than sustaining me through the scenarios, I will be very pleased to re-purpose my preparations.

Good read - and I'm keeping it around to remind myself not to get complacent!

    Awesome book!

Both my husband and I really loved this book. It is geared toward real people, not necessarily the upper crust. He tells you what to do to prepare for the coming oil crisis, energy crisis, financial crisis, etc. He gives you concrete things that you can do to prepare. Some of them are common sense, but there are many others that you never would have thought about. I feel like I got my money's worth out of this book and I will definitely share it with others that are like-minded. We all need to be prepared for emergencies. This guy doesn't talk like the people that were saying the world was going to end with Y2K. He is realistic.

    The Ultimate Surburban Survivalist Guide

I have read about 1/2 of this book and find it to be an excellent source of common sense information. I would recommend it to anyone for its relevance to our current and future times.

Why did I buy this book?

I am not a reactionary or paranoid, but after reading this book, the author would have me believe I need to be both. This book did not belong on the table with other books giving financial advice. After 4 chapters, I learned I needed a gun, a garden, lots of ammunition, and a pantry with 3 months worth of food. Nothing really on dealing with a topsy turvey financial system or guidance on what how to navigate it. Mr. Broderick needs to get a grip and stop looking for the end of the world. I cannot recommend this book to anyone looking for financial guidance.
