Stink Moody, family brain, brings home a report card that isn’t perfect? Yikes! Time for him to get into fighting shape and beat back that U for Unsatisfactory in gym! A scan of the sports channel leads to a knock-out find: world-class thumb wrestling, with tricky moves like Snake in the Grass and Santa’s Little Helper (no equipment needed, save for a tiny terrifying mask to sit on your thumb). But when Mom and Dad are not wowed, Stink gets another idea: he’ll kick and punch his way to a yellow belt with the help of a Dragon Master, a seeing-eye Moose, and a mind as still as a pond. Can you say Crouching Tiger, Hidden Thumb? Hee-ya! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Our rambunctious young hero Stink Moody is rightfully proud of all his O's for "Outstanding," but one ugly "U," an "Unsatisfactory" for phys ed, still looms like a giant sore thumb. Speaking of which: Stink's strategy for getting into grading good graces is to master thumb-wrestling. When that fails, he decides he has to take more drastic measures.... A fun addition to a kid pleasing series.

Children's Literature - Maggie Chase
In this next episode of the irrepressible Stink, he finds out, via his report card, that he's not so great in Physical Education, for which he received a U. This is unTHINKable for the Stink, so, with the help of his family, he ventures out into the world of non-spectator sports to find his inner athlete. After rejecting numerous sports for various reasons, he tries watching some sports channels and hears the mention of thumb-wrestling as a sport that can be done "...at home! In the car! At school!" Let the thumb-wrestling competitions begin! Stink learns the tricks and their names; who knew there was a Head-Butt, Playing Possum, or a Halley's Comet trick? When thumb-wrestling at school gets him in trouble, Stink's parents channel his energy into karate lessons. Stink uses the mindfulness techniques learned in karate to best his thumb-wrestling foe, Webster. This edition comes with pre-made punch-out masks to put over your thumb and directions within the story for making your own thumb mask. This book, as with others in the "Stink" series, serves as an engaging, boy-friendly transition chapter book, complete with puns, illustrations, a related web site, and great possibilities for converting chunks of the text into a readers' theater experience.
