Overview

There's something magical about a cabin set among tree branches. It excites adults and tempts children away from sedentary pursuits to a world of outdoor fantasy. Treehouses come in all shapes and sizes, from a simple deck in the sky to an elaborate complex of interconnecting structures far above the ground. They can be romantic, luxurious, or designed for entertaining friends. This engaging book contains some of the most interesting examples from around the world, and also features a wide range of interiors, designed for various functions. It's an invaluable source of lofty ideas for anyone contemplating a move up--into the trees.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
For many, tree houses evoke memories of an idyllic childhood (although very few kids are fortunate enough to grow up with one). Architect Clark describes tree houses for kids of all ages, eschewing specific construction plans for examples of tree house features and designs, as well as information on appropriate trees. Some of his descriptions are traditional, while others include amenities like electricity or Jacuzzis. Clark also taps tree house lore, with coverage of noteworthy tree houses (e.g., the "Treetops" made famous by Queen Elizabeth II) and those shown in movies (e.g., The Lord of the Rings and Tarzan). A section on tree houses of the future (including those designed for Mars!) completes this fanciful title, which should be considered by only the most comprehensive public libraries.
