I had always seem to have a slower metabolism then my family & friends. I am 56 yeras old and two years ago, I started gaining unexplained weight. What followed was 10 new disease. One clinic put me on Alli for 6 months- still finding no results. When I was doing what I believe needed to be done(Like following the diet & exercising) and nothing changed, I knew the best thing for me was to keep praying and trusting God was more powerful then any of my circumstance. In Janurary one of my doctor from Mncome, suggested Dr. Mark Hyman book. I started following all that he recommened. The doctor from Mncome, I will call Dr. Kim, changed the betablocker I was on. That first month I lost 15 lbs. Because my insurance company would not cover the new betablocker, Dr. Kim put me on, I stopped loseing again. Over the next 3 weeks, my primary doctor worked with me and the insurance company. I was given one year of approval for the new drug. Five more lbs started to melt away. There is a Alternative Doctor at the Allina clinc that I go to. I asked this doctor if he had every heard of Dr. Hyman. He had and had read all his other books except mine. I told Dr. Carlson that I would buy him this book if it worked for me. He now has a copy. My primary doctor asked to see the book. When she read the back cover of Ultra-Metabolism, she gasp. When she had been done with her residency- her mother had sent her to Canyon Ranch in Berkshires, wher Dr. Hyman is the co-medical director. My Doctor remembers how relaxing the Ranch was and the food amazing. I have found my answers to eating the best I can for my body& health. Two more books were purchased by me, because I beleive so much in what Dr. Hyman has to offer. I am excited that others can find answers to their battled of being stuck in a physical body that seemed out of ones control to manage. After completing several weeks on Mark Hyman's Ultra Simple Diet I bought this book to transition off and continue the journey to my ideal weight and a healthy relationship with food. It has been a slow process for me because I can hardly believe how much weight I have lost (23.5 pounds)and I am still insecure about keeping it off because I have lost and regained the weight so many times in the past. One thing that I like about this book is the recipes. They help me think about my meals differently. I look and feel fantastic since reading these books and implementing their plans. It is wonderful to be in the normal, BMI less than 24, weight range and I have so much energy at 58 years of age. Now I know why I have not been able to control my weight in recent years and these plans have helped me understand my body's sensitivities and nutritional needs. Discovering my hidden allergies has been extremely helpful. This book is revolutionary in its approach to nutrition. I thought I knew how to eat healthy before but now I have a whole different lifestyle around food and it is one that I will live with for the rest of my life. This book is not a great casual read. It is intended for the person who is ready to really revolutionize their eating habits, drop weight, and be extremely healthy.

The Ultra-Metabolism Diet is based on the belief that people get fat because their body's systems become toxic, inflamed, and imbalanced based on poor eating. The theory in a nutshell is that you must eliminate white rice, refined grains, most red meats, and caffeinated beverages. It's a popular idea in many of the diet books lately when you reduce refined foods and allergens, your body will benefit. 'I doubt this is news to you'. The Ultrametabolism Diet has a lot of excellent information, but the nuts and bolts get a little too complex, in my opinion. The a big focus is on eating whole grains, fruits and veggies. Again, probably nothing new to you. If you're new to elimination style diets, this book is certainly as good as any of them out there. But to be honest, I needed more than simply a diet and explanation why I should follow the diet. I'm a diet pro, on and off diets for years now. The problem was never the diet, it was my emotions that would override my best intentions when ever times got though or I just plain got bored. Ok, so I'd lose some weight on the diet, but then what? Mark Hyman lays out six weeks, but what about the new six months or six years? In my case, I needed to look at the emotional side of my eating. I've lost 25 pounds and made it through the holidays unscathed for the first time in my life, not because of some 'miracle diet' but because I was committed to myself in a way I had never been in the past. This happened with the help of a couple of wonderful programs helped me take a deep look at myself and my relationship between food and my emotions. I've never felt so positive in my life! If your having problems staying on diets, look into your emotional motivations and you may finally be able to step off the weight loss roller coaster. This book has taken its place in my big library of diet books. I might even refer to it from time to time in the future for information.

Another diet book? Comm'n! I thought when this book fell in my hands... I started glancing through it... as a good friend of mine gave it to me, and I very much respect her opinion on all matters. What an excellent piece of writing. Dr. Hyman is very knowledgeable and shares the information with his audience with such clarity and simplicity. I have never written a book review before. Ever! And, I read like a maniac. Just rather read, than write. But, I swear this book is a treasure.

UltraMetabolism is the best book I've seen on the subject of weight control and the various mechanisms and relationships that affect weight and its management. My weight control problems began when I left the Army more than fifty years ago. I embarked on a life style where regular and sustained physical exercise was near impossible. I gained weight and went on a low fat diet, popular at the time. I did lose weight but also acquired the added bonus of gall bladder disease. Over the years I would gain forty pounds and take the weight off with the fad diet of the time. Ultimately my diet of choice was the high protein diet. Twenty years ago I suffered a mild heart attack and began a course of non-invasive treatment. The treatments included chelation therapy, EECP, Plaquex and Nano- bac Therapy. A few years after I suffered the heart attack I was subjected to a period of severe stress and my weight went out of control. I returned to the high protein diet with which I had success in the past and while I lost some weight, the results were disappointing. Eventually, I determined through laboratory tests, that the high fat content of the 'one size fits all' diet was having an adverse effect on my health. A little more than two 2 years ago I experienced a heart block and had a pacemaker implanted. During the procedure one of the the pacemaker sensors penetrated a vein on my heart and the pericardium filled with blood. Another surgery was needed to drain the blood, but before I could get out of the hospital I contracted a staph infection. Between the accident and the infection I suffered damage to my heart muscle and have added congestive heart failure to the list. My failure problem is being treated with Propacs and NT Factor which seem to help but I am considering cord stem cell therapy to repair some of the damage. In addition, I am on a maintenance dose of Nanobac therapy consisting of a chelating suppository, supplements and and oregano preparation to keep the nanobac bacteria and other organisms that have been building calcium tents in by blood vessels at bay. Further, I have been managing unstable blood sugar levels with cinnamon oil. To take some of the load off my heart, my health care provider, whom I regard as among the best available, put me on a gluten free diet with elimination of nightshades to increase my pH. Between the diet and some of the modalities, ideas, procedure and techniques I have learned from UltraMetabolism, I have really begun to make headway with comfort. I do not know how much weight I have lost, I consider my eratic scale an enemy, but I have lost several inches around my waist, the band on my wrist watch has loosened and friends are commenting about my weight loss. Starting on the gluten free with pH control and the recommendation in UltraMetabolism seemed very difficult in the beginning but the more I learn as time goes on, the more I feel that I've made a life style change that I can manage. A number of annoying little health problems seem to be better since I am on the diet and using what I've learned from UltraMetabollism. My post nasal drip has improved, persistant hemorrhoid distress has virtually disappeared, my irritable bowel syndrome is much improved and some symptoms I attribute to hypothyroid problems are getting better. I consider the many ideas, techniques, procedures, explanations, and information contained in UltraMetabollism to anyone concerned about metabolism, weight management and general health to be invaluable.

This book makes perfect sense. Why isn't everyone eatting this way? After trying several very expensive perscriptions for acid reflux I tried the Ultrametabolism diet and finally I not only got relief, it is totally gone. Also, I lost 22 pounds without trying!!! The plan is easy to follow and the recipes are delicious. In addition, I have a new sense of well being and more energy than I've had in years. Thank god, I found Untrametabolism.

I read this book over a year ago and thought it was helpful then. Now I am excerising (Using P90X), and still not losing weight like I thought I would, now that I am exercising. So, I decided to pull this book out and reread it. I have adopted many of his principles and lost 7 lbs in the last 2 weeks. If you are looking for a quick fix, easy solution, to losing weight you won't find it. It doesn't exist. Any company telling you it does, or that they have the product you are looking for is just after your money. I was over 80 lbs overweight when I started losing. It took my 15 years to put on that weight (with a couple tries at losing along the way). How can I, or you, expect to lose weight so quickly, or EASILY, if it took that long to put it on? I am learning so much more this time around than I did the first time. It's like a new book to me again. Not only is it informative but it makes me angry because I see how the billion dollar companies are manipulating us and we fall for it. Follow the CEO of McDonald's around for a day. Is he fat? Does he eat the food his company produces regularly or does he eat healthy food at fancy restaraunts? Wake up people, its time to take your health seriously and you can start by reading this book.

I accidentally found this title while searching for another book. I was intrigued by the title and short review. I purchased it and read over a weekend. I started the plan the very next week and 4 weeks later I've lost 18 pounds. I kid you not, it has literally fallen away with absolutely no tedious, hard work. I recommend this book to anyone who has tried all the fad diets. You will feel and look better, but best of all you'll be healthier.

There is so much great information in this book. Most of it is new information that is not known by the public. I've been following the plan for about 3 weeks. It's not as hard as you might think. I feel a lot better, many of my ailments are gone or have decreased significantly, and I've lost a few pounds and a few inches. Try it - I bet you'll feel better.

Mark Hyman deals with many myths associated with dieting and weight loss. He explains many not so obvious causes of gaining weight. He also reminds the reader of important rules to follow in order to keep not only thin but also healthy. All in all this is a good book for someone committed to losing weight and keeping it off. What I particularly liked about this book is its focus being shifted towards living healthy lifestyle. The author emphasizes the importance of cleansing the liver and detoxifying your whole body. This sounds to me like a revamp of the same good ideas so well presented in the book Can We Live 150 in which the author focuses exclusively on health and self-help (body cleansing, proper breathing, and using all the "natural doctors who are always with you"). Interestingly losing weight seems to be the natural outcome of one's healthy lifestyle. This has at least been so in my case.

this book is great. some people are discouraged that in order to lose weight they have to give up all junk food. well you dont its all about portion control. you know whats healthy for your body and whats not, you need to have will power and a set goal and work hard to achieve it. other wise you arnt going to find a diet that works. you only get out of it what you put into it. seeing results isnt going to happen over night it takes effort. i am 5'3 and weighed 185lbs. i started watching what i was eating and portioning my meals and within 6 months i dropped down to 131lbs. you can lose weight, but there is no quick fix. people dont realize when you go on a diet such as south beach, atkins, diet pills and or supliments once you stop taking them, you gain your weight back and its even harder to come off then the first time. i recommend weight watchers. you eat real foods and you work at your own pace. this book gives a lot of helpful adivse on changing a diet with healthy food. thanks for reading my little review

WOW! TThis is the most sensable and healthiest diet for us all.I am an older woman that has tried most of the weight loss diets and until now none of them comes close to the benefits and common sense of Ultrametabolism. The book is a good read and informative. Do it! And reap the great rewards!

Let me start off as saying this book contains a lot of common sense philosophies of weight loss and overall good health. Drink lots of water, eat real foods, as opposed to processed junk foods. Always go for fresh vegetables instead of canned, etc. I agree with that wholeheartedly. The book's idea is very pure and simple, and it brings up some very valid points of other causes for weight gain or other common maladities that might besides overeating or lack of exercise, such as thyroid problems, hormonal imbalances, lack of sleep, undiagnosed allergies, etc. So for those reasons, I would recommend the book. Even if you don't take all of the advice to heart, I think its an educational book and I am altering some of my habits based on the advice in the book. Some negatives of the book are, I found he could be a little redundant in his writing (I skimmed over parts that were getting repetitive) and the more I read, the more it became apparent that to follow his program to the letter would require a big committment - the books says everything from teflon in cookware to pesticides in foods can cause toxic reactions that can cause weight gain. While I don't disagree with that, it got to be a little depressing reading that so many things in our enviroment could be poisoning us and causing various health problems, including weight gain. That said, just because it can be a little depressing, does not mean it shouldn't be something of which we are blissfuly ignorant. But I find that this would be a program that requires a big commitment and it would require some sacrifice. I think if you are overweight, the one thing that you should check out in this book are some tests Dr. Hyman recommends you request your doctor to perform to make sure there are not some hidden health problems which could be causing weight gain.
