On the surface, this book tells the tale of a child who receives gifts that she can't wait to use. But reading this to my child, as a parent, I also read and felt the bittersweet inevitability of one's child growing up and outgrowing the innocence. It's rather a poignant reminder.
This book simply covers the subject of everything a child receives on his or her birthday or Christmas, etc. A child gets a sled, and can't wait for it to snow. A child gets a shovel, and can't wait to dig. And in this book, a child gets boots and an umbrella, and can't wait for it to rain. What a great children's story of anticipation.
