Meet the Author

Award-winning author Kristine Cayne is fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology—twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of-control desires. Add in high-stakes scenarios and real-world villains, and you have a story worth writing, and reading.

Kristine’s heroes and heroines are pitted against each other by their radically opposing life experiences. By overcoming their differences and finding common ground, they triumph over their enemies and find true happiness in each other’s arms.

Today she lives in the Pacific Northwest, thriving on the mix of cultures, languages, religions and ideologies. When she’s not writing, she’s people-watching, imagining entire life stories, and inventing all sorts of danger for the unsuspecting heroes and heroines who cross her path.

I read this on V-Day in 2012 when I first met Kristine and she directed me to this little gem that she had posted on Wattpad. It was my introduction to her writing, and I remember loving this short story for the great humor and well written plot. Two years later and I still remember this story fondly. Two years later and it's about darn time I got around to reviewing it.

Cassie Ames hates Valentine's Day. It's been a year since her boyfriend took her out for a romantic dinner and she thought he was finally going to pop the question. She didn't expect to find him banging the waitress. This year she wants nothing to do with the romantic holiday. No candy. No romantic frou-frou. Nothing. When her nerdy friend and colleague asks her to hang out with him, he promises her the most unromantic day he can think of. If that's what she wants, that's what he'll do. Anything to get her to see him as a man, as boyfriend material. You'll have to read the story to find out whether or not his attempts to win over the cynic are successful.

Who doesn't love a sweet, romantic story about friends to lovers? Both characters were so adorable in the way they represented both sides of the coin. Cassie was stubborn, cynical and blind to the attraction between her and Noah. Poor, sweet, loveable Noah. He had the body of a god and the fashion sense of a Sheldon Cooper. I loved the unconventional "date" he took her on. The story shows that celebrating V-Day should be in tune with who they are, not what is perceived as romantic by the big money makers of this holiday. The dialogue and humor between the characters made them so likeable, and the story felt realistic. I wish it had been just a wee bit longer, perhaps an epilogue with a snapshot of them on their second Valentine's Day date.

If you're looking for a clean romance (no sex) , heavy on the sweetness and a happy ending, then this is a story for you.
