Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

In her second gluten-free cookbook, "Cake Mix Doctor" Anne Byrn shares 125 recipes designed to increase the kitchen repertoire of any home cook challenged by the allergy. The dishes include pastas, lasagna, poultry, meat loaf, enchiladas, pizzas, dumpling, puddings, cupcakes, cobblers, brownies, and much more. An inexpensive way to please the whole family.

Publishers Weekly
Former food editor and Cake Mix Doctor series creator Byrn (The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten Free) hails from the South, and the region’s tradition of deeply satisfying comfort food figures prominently in this collection of 125 gluten-free recipes for breakfast, appetizers, main dishes, soups and salads, breads, snacks, and desserts. Byrn, who does not have gluten or dairy sensitivities, directs her effort toward families with mixed nutritional needs, hearty appetites, little time to shop and prepare meals, and a budget. Many recipes call for store-bought gluten-free mixes, which Byrn has tweaked to achieve textures and tastes nearly identical to gluten-laden fare. From her country-fried steak, fried green tomatoes, skillet cornbread, and pecan pie, to Indian fried onion fritters, tempura, spinach and feta balls, and Irish soda bread, Byrne covers diverse territory. There is plenty of pasta, a decadent flourless chocolate cake, and a version of “smashed chicken” that will likely be a crowd pleaser. Aside from its many outstanding gluten-free versions of favorite foods like chicken pot pie and brownies and many naturally gluten-free foods (e.g., a tuna and white bean salad), Byrn’s latest cookbook invites readers to a culinary adventure, whether by choice or medical necessity, where a little experimentation yields surprising results. Great Book

This is a great book. I love it considering I have digestive problems with wheat flour and its hard to find foods that are gluten free and taste good.

This is the best gluten free cookbook I have found so far. I lov

This is the best gluten free cookbook I have found so far. I love to cook and bake, and I was devastated when I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I was concerned I would never taste good bread again - the gluten free breads I tried from the grocery store had an unnatural texture and had minimal flavor. The bread products in this gluten free cookbook are excellent! The author (Anne Byrn) has studied the science of making gluten free bread with taste and texture as close to my favorite gluten containing breads as possible. The cherry/chocolate scones are the best and most moist scones I've ever made (even with gluten containing recipes) - I frost the scones with the cream cheese frosting recipe contained elsewhere in the book. I even use the yeast roll recipe in the book as a base dough for my old fashioned monkey bread recipe.

    Exceeded my Expectations

I have other gluten-free cookbooks, but this one is super in practical recipes, a wide variety of recipes, and they are tastier than so many other gluten-free recipes. An added bonus is the tip for each recipe about how to make it dairy free, as well. Definitely a must-have cookbook for those who need gluten-free recipes.
