Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Grief unites a young widower and his late wife's best friend in Jacquelyn's (Craving Molly) contemporary romance, which is marred by immature characters, distracting coarse dialogue, and a tedious plot. Kate Evans and Shane Anderson met when they were teens; Kate has always loved Shane, even after Shane married her best friend, Rachel, and broke Kate's heart. After Rachel dies, "Auntie" Kate is a stable, loving helpmate for Shane's four young children. After one night's drunken sexual encounter between Shane and Kate, he rejects her again and initiates tiresome bickering between them. Shane lashes out and acts threatened that Kate is trying to replace his late wife, all while he is fighting his true feelings for her; eventually Kate reaches her breaking point with him. The couple begins to mend their complicated relationship when Shane is made aware of his problems and Kate is able to trust him again. Jacquelyn provides plenty of eroticism, but gratuitous swearing and a sophomoric plot detract from what could be positive messages about foster care, fortitude, and emotional maturity. (June)

Shane and Kate's story is not one of insta love. It's not a love conquers all story. It's messy, frustrating, heartbreaking, and sad. When they finally start to get things right, it's breathtaking. Thank you to Corvisiero Literary Agency for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Saying that I couldn’t put this novel down would be an understatement. Goodreads didn’t even have time to register that I was reading it. I started and finished it in about four hours. This novel was so interesting. Kate and Shane have known each other since they were teenagers. They used to do everything together. Then one day Shane stopped paying attention to Kate and started paying attention to her best friend Rachel. Years later, they are happily married with three children and another on the way when tragedy strikes. Now Kate is helping Shane raise four children after Rachel dies in a car accident. The problem? Shane hates Kate. That doesn’t stop Kate from taking care of the kids, but Shane makes it clear that they aren’t her children. After an accidental one-night stand a year after Rachel’s accident, Kate finds herself pregnant. Now Shane is headed out for deployment, leaving Kate to take care of four kids and her unborn child all by herself. Kate and Shane were so frustrating! There was so much history between them. Shane was clearly lost and confused throughout the entire story. One minute they were sweet to each other and the next Shane was ripping her head off for seemingly no reason. I wasn’t a huge fan of Shane at the beginning, but every time he was sweet to Kate I couldn’t help but fall for him. Nicole Jacquelyn’s writing was perfect. She wrote characters that had depth to them and felt real. She took real life situations are wrote about them perfectly. I loved that Rachel wasn’t a roadblock in the relationship, because Kate is a very different person than her. I know this isn’t my typically genre, but I am branching out. I really enjoyed this story and I think you will too. Be advised that there are a couple of steamy scenes throughout the novel.

Well written - It is so well written it brings most readers' feelings to the forefront -- anger, frustration, sympathy, etc. Feelings towards the characters in the story. When is a love triangle not a triangle? When the third party chooses her friendship with the other lady over what her heart feels. Then, what should this friend do when suddenly her best friend dies in a car accident? Take a chance on this book and see if you too have many emotions while reading this well written story.

I have never in my life been so mad at a book. I have never had to highlight so many sentences and quotes in said book. I have never had to stop reading to sit up in my bed and tell myself to calm down - it's just a book. Normally, this would be a bad thing. Because holy hell, no other book in the entire world- or you know, the 700+ books that I have read- has ever gotten me so frustrated. But it's not a bad thing. It's a good thing. It is an amazing thing. I have been in such a huge book funk lately and this book made me feel SO many emotions at once that it was completely impossible to not lose myself in it. Shane was absolutely infuriating. He was so hot and cold and sometimes downright cruel that I found myself cursing in the darkness of my room. And it was exactly what I needed for my book funk. Unbreak My Heart was out of this world incredible. From the very first chapter of the book, it is so clear that Shane & Kate where going to end up together come hell or high water. I was a bit scared going into it because most of the books in which the spouse dies always has the dead spouse being compared to the current love interest over and over again until I'm sick of it and words can't express how glad I am that this was NOT the case in Unbreak My Heart. If anything, I think it's safe to say Shane loves Katie unlike he has ever loved anyone else, even though it took him a while to understand his own feelings and finally be okay with them. I haven't written a review this long in ages but this book honestly deserves it. It was heartbreaking, beautiful, frustrating and I will never forget the way it made me feel. Nicole Jaquelyn has jumped her way into my one-click authors list with just ONE BOOK. That is unheard of for me but I cannot wait to see what the rest of her books bring. I would honestly recommend this book to each and every single one of my book friends.

For a book where I didn't really like 2 of the main characters - it is a testament to how well-written it was that I was hooked from the beginning and still rooted for Shane to get his s**t together!! Rachel is Kate's best friend who is married to Shane who is Kate's former best friend. Kate is basically on the outside looking in. And while many have commented that she was a doormat - that's not how I see her. I see her as someone who sacrifices for those she loves - even to the detriment to herself. Kate has always been there for Rachel through every one of Shane's deployments. Shane is a true jerk and a** who dumped Kate as his friend once Rachel was in the picture. Rachel is just plain selfish which becomes even more apparent as the story goes on. Rachel dies in a tragic accident and since Kate loves Rachel's kids like her own - she picks up the pieces and takes care of them while Shane is busy with his military obligations. It's not much different than any other time after all. Things heat up between Kate and Shane on the one-year anniversary of Rachel's death and their lives are never the same. While Shane is on deployment - they are bonded to each other in many ways. However, upon Shane's return - he does something so dastardly - it's hard not to hate him - and you probably will. In his defense, he is doing what he thinks is right and overreacts to a misunderstanding, but after everything Kate has done for him - it's the ultimate betrayal. Kate finally stands up to him and Shane will have to fight to get back into her life. This book was very poignant, heart-wrenching, and tearjerkingly real. I really connected to how Kate felt and why she did the things she did. Her extended family is awesome and Book 2 is sure to be even better!!

I truly loved this story with the bantering that goes on with the characters is funny. Although Shane made me mad quit a bit with his attitude against Kate who has done nothing but love him, his wife Rachel and their 4 children. Kate drops everything when Shane is deployed to help Rachel out with EVERYTHING! I think Rachel was kind of an awful friend too for she used Kate for this alone. Then when Shane had his leave they both kind of ignored Kate an all that she is to them and their children. *Also one thing that I felt was missing towards the end was what ever was wrong with the oldest boy's temper? Was never said.....??? That being said it was about 265 pages and I have already bought the next in the series! Make sure you have tissues for this is highly recommended.****

Unbreak My Heart is probably the most REAL and HONEST book that I've read in a long time. I've been stuck in a paranormal and edgy contemporary rut lately, and while I still love those books, I needed a break. Unbreak My Heart was like going home for me. I'm going to admit right now that I did not read the synopsis before jumping in. I accepted the book based on the cover alone, which was risky... but in the end, I'm so glad that I didn't read the synopsis because the surprises I was in store for only added to the heat-breaking highs and lows of the story. On the very first page, we are introduced to Shane. A loving husband and father, completely enamored with his wife. His wife, Rachel, trying to convince him that going to see her best friend Kate (who has a connection to him through childhood) perform IS the best way to spend one of their few nights out without children. Right away, it's a struggle I can identify with. The entire story continues that way. The ups and downs of life, the real and honest struggles of surviving life's curve balls and finding happiness even when times seem their darkest. I loved Rachel. There were times that I absolutely hated Shane, all while my heart was breaking for him. And there were times that I wanted to slap Kate and tell her to wake up! I'm not going to address more about the characters and plot than those little teasers because you can read the synopsis below if you want, or you can go into it cold like I did. (*whispers* Go cold! You won't regret it!) The family dynamic to this is story is really what hooked me. I laughed with them, I cried with them. From the very first page, I didn't want to step away. I read it in two days, and if I had been able to sit at home all day, I likely would have finished it in only one. I didn't know that it was the first in the series while I was reading it. But it is!!!! And I've already got the second book in the series on my wish list! At the end of the day, Unbreak My Heart definitely gets 5 stars from me!

Sad to say this new series isn't as good as the Aces MC books. This was more romantic than raw. The dialogue was mild compared to her other books. Sex was brief. While I understand that this was not the focus, Sweet was not what I was looking for.

The minute Kate Evans met Shane Anderson she knew they were meant to be together forever, they became fast friends, & she was certain the next step in their relationship would be love, and eventually marriage, but he didn't quite see things that way. She went from being the center of his attention to watching him marry her best friend, and it was beyond excruciating. It was one thing for him to cast her aside for someone else, but then to have him move on and act like she meant nothing to him and live the life they should be living together, with her best friend Rachel was all together devastating. She didn't want to lose her friendship with Rachel so she buried her feelings for Shane, and tried to be a good friend, & carry on like he never meant anything to her, but no matter how hard she tried he always found a way into her thoughts. She knew she shouldn't give him a second thought after his betrayal, and especially after the way he chose to completely ignore her existence, but she just couldn't find it in herself to let him go. With he and Rachel's ever growing family, and his deployments, Rachel was left alone to care for their children, and before long Kate found herself helping out and being a secondary parent to their kids. Her bond with their children meant the world to her, and being their for Rachel had become a constant in her life, but nothing could prepare her what would come next... Rachel's unexpected death takes her from being a secondary parent figure to a mother figure the children so desperately need and also has her sharing a home with the man she has tried so hard to let go of... Everything in Shane Anderson's life gets turned upside down when he gets a frantic call from his wife's best friend telling him that his wife is gone, that she lost her life in a car accident. The news of losing the love of his life is almost more than he bare, and the reality that he is now a single parent to four children is beginning to set in, and he can't begin to fathom how is going to get through all of this on his own. That's when he turns to his wife's best friend for help, having her around is unsettling, and brings up feelings he thought he'd long since buried, but he knows that there is no one else that he can trust with the lives of his children. She steps right in and things start to fall into place, and it scares him because it all makes sense...too much sense, and it has him feelings things he knows he shouldn't, things that will change everything! From the moment I cracked this book a powerful feeling settled over me, and I immediately knew I was about to embark on something truly special, something that was about to consume me & leave me raw and emotionally exhausted...in the best possible way! And true to my thought it did, the instant these two beautiful souls waltzed on the page I was completely captivated by them, and fully invested in every facet of their lives, I couldn't help but to be addicted to their story. I felt the intensity and passion behind every word, felt the sting of every disappointment, and struggled to keep the tears at bay the whole way through!! I have to say that this is BY FAR one of the best reads I have had the pleasure of settling down this year, and have wholeheartedly loved from start to finish!! Ms. Jacquelyn has written something truly remarkable here I am certain that she will have no problem at all winning readers over with this one, it is one of those reads that will hit you deep!
