All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Katharine McPhee ditches dance-pop and her long brunette locks for her second album, Unbroken, upgrading to AAA crossover pop and a short blonde crop. The sudden departure was necessary, driven by the general disregard for her 2007 debut, which in typical post-American Idol fashion, chased after big hit singles at the expense of her show persona. On Idol, McPhee always favored classic pop over modern, and Unbroken returns her to that course, bringing her somewhere within the vicinity of Paula Cole (who co-writes the title track), Rachael Yamagata (who co-writes "Keep Drivin'"), and Mandy Moore's stylized '70s throwback, flavored with the slightest traces of ...

The vibe fits McPhee, feeling like a deliberate blend of her "Over the Rainbow" and KT Tunstall tribute.
Billboard
McPhee sounds much more comfortable amid [producer John] Alagia's rootsy settings than she did surrounded by the shiny R&B beats of her self-titled debut.
Boston Globe
The disc is at its best when it avoids formulaic exercises like "Had It All," which the cliche-loving Kara DioGuardi copenned. When McPhee lets the lyrics breathe, she shines; on the title track, the requisite big ballad, she finds its center and gives it a soul.

    Kat's Sophomore Album

It's been 4 years since Kat was the American Idol runner up.Her first cd was on the RCA label and now,she has signed onto a new label,Verve...where she joins a roster of superstar artists.
On Unbroken,Kat has written on 6 tracks and has collaborated with seasoned songwriters, including Paula Cole and Ingrid MIchaelson. Two tracks were penned by Kara DioGuardi.....and her upbeat,Had It All is the first single release.Lifetime is also very upbeat and catchy and many feel this song could be chosen by many couples to be played as their wedding song. There are several touching heart rending ballads, particularly Terrified and Say Goodbye.
All in all,Kat is in great voice and is proving to realize the potential seen on Idol.
