I’m a history junkie, and love everything about the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s era. So when my friend got me this book for my birthday, I was more than thrilled! This was such a dramatic and intense read! As I was reading it, I was so amazed by what I was reading because some of the things you read in this book, they don’t tell you in school.

In school, I can remember all my teachers telling that Al Capone was this horrible criminal gangster, which he might have been but this book shows that he did have a soft side to him. This book shows that he was a human-being just like you or me, but he just choose a different lifestyle.

This book doesn’t just show you a different side of Capone but it shows you a different side of his ENTIRE family. It
This book is told from one of his relatives, and I’m glad it was. It adds to the story and makes it better. It shows you that the Capone family is just like any other family in America.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves or wants to know more about the 1920’s, and 30’s era. And if you just want a good read!

This book was well written, fast-paced, dramatic, and it kept me interested the whole time. There’s not one boring part in this whole book. I even passed the book along to my history professor for next semester to see if he’ll use the book in class! *fingers-crossed*

Highly recommended - a must read!!!

Wonderfully written. Revelations of previously unknown facts of Al Capone and the Capone family, and more. Couldn't put it down. Deirdre Marie Capone takes you on an unforgetible ride through the life of the amazing and intriguing Al Capone, with an insiders look rarely seen.

Love it, Love it, Love it!!!

OOoo! This is one of my favorite books ever!!! I really couldn't put it down!! I read it cover to cover twice! This book is truly an interesting, informational, dramatic read! I learned so much from reading this book, like about life back then, and I learned more about Al Capone as a person!

The book is told from Al Capone's grandniece's point of view, which makes the story even better! It gives the reader, a deep look into Capone's family life, and his actual life. And it shows you how his family felt about him.

I was shocked by some of the things I read, but in a good way. I mean in history class, my teachers always made Capone seem like this horrible, terrible person who did all these bad things. They made him seem like a monster but this book shows you that some of those things, we learned were lies. It shows you a good side of him. And it was really nice to see the other side of things or the other side of Al Capone.

I've always been interested in Al Capone since grade school because we learned so much about him, and it was really nice to know more. Especially from someone in his family.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves history, or that era of time or anyone who just wants a good read! It's really fast-paced, dramatic, and TRUST me, you won't want to put it down! ;)

For people that that think of Mr.Capone as a monster think again!The goverment told half truths and flat out lies.Read the true story of the man from the only living member who knew him personaly.He was no saint.But who is?He was a business man first and formost serving the people what they wanted at a time the goverment said they could not have it.And had family that adored him.

Excellent Book

Do you think you know who the mastermind was behind the St. Valentine's Day Massacre? Think again! We all know Al Capone was public enemy #1. Read "Uncle Al Capone" and meet the real man from someone who knew him. The author doesn't make excuses for her family. She courageously invites us in to meet all of them.

This is an awsome book!!!!!!!!!

I've always have been interested in Al Capone. At one time family tried to convince me that I was related to him (but I found the truth). Deirdre did an awsome job on this book. I read it whenever I get a chance. If you have ever wondered about who the real Scar Face was or what really happened at the Saint Valentines murder than this book is a must.

Wonderful Book!

I loved this book! Like most people, I suppose, I always believed the movie version of Al Capone's evil deeds.

However, I've read a great deal about Jesse James (I have a family connection) and the same thing was true for him: If there were three bank robberies in three different states, he was blamed for all three. He was the most famous outlaw of his day, so he was an easy target.

The same was undoubtedly true for Capone. He was the most famous "outlaw" of the time. If he were really the monster history has made him out to be, shouldn't the government have been able to convict him of something more heinous than tax evasion?

This book gave me an insight into a loving family man who was also a businessman who took advantage of Prohibition's restrictions on a nation that didn't even want it to make the money to support his family. (Isn't that how Joseph Kennedy got rich?)

I congratulate Ms. Capone on her exceptional book. And may her Uncle Al rest in peace.

The best book ever written about AL CAPONE!!

I have always had a fascination with gangsters. Books, movies, and TV, I took it all in. My favorite by far was Al Capone. I always found him the most interesting. When I found out a book was being written by a relative, I got excited! The opportunity to read about Al Capone from the inside was fantastic!
Deirdre Marie Capone, granddaughter to Ralph Capone, started to write a cookbook. Somewhere along the way it became an insider's view in to the private life of Al Capone. It features stories that could only be told by a family member. Deirdre not only shed some light on some events that were shrouded in speculation. (Do not want to give anything away.) She also details her struggle living with such an infamous name.
I have read many books about Al Capone. This is my favorite by far. It was nice to hear facts instead of speculations. It showed that Al Capone may have been a gangster, but his family always came first. He is job first and foremost was the care of his family.
I almost forgot! There are some recipes in this book to die for!!!

Very interesting book. I cried when I read about little Deirdre

Very interesting book. I cried when I read about little Deirdre being left in a car whil her grandpa was in a tavern and being alone in school

during her lunch hour. What a dear person she is. I felt bad for her father having no mother and his wife leaving him and he was a good man. I admire Dierdre for being so loyal to her relatives.

Well done

The book was well written. It puts a fresh spin on the life of "public enemy number one". It is nice to see him, and the entire Capone family shown in a much more human way than what we are used to.
