Overview

In 1880, Joel Chandler Harris, a moderate white Southern journalist, published a collection of black folktales, proverbs, songs, and character sketches based on stories he had heard as a child. In his introduction, Robert Hemenway discusses the book's enduring popularity, pointing out that the character of Uncle Remus, the docile and grandfatherly ex-slave storyteller, is a utopian figure-a literary creation by Harris that reassured white readers during the tense and tentative Reconstruction. By contrast, the feisty Brer Rabbit was a mainstay of black folklore long before Harris heard of his exploits. Brer Rabbit's cunning and revolutionary antics symbolically inverted the slave-master relationship and satisfied the deep human needs of a captive people.

Presents the legends, songs, and sayings of Uncle Remus, following the text of the first edition of Joel Chandler Harris' attempt to record traditional black stories of his time.

    Legendclan intro

You walk through the forest, your paws hitting the leaves.Oh well. You aren't here to hunt. Some way or another, whether you heard about it or just found it,your pawpads have led you to a curious stone encampment. You walk through it,cautious to the last furlength.A shecat sits near the entrance on a rock. You approach and mew a welcome. The golden shecat falls of the rock in surprise. She brushes herself off, purring in amusement as her green eyes twinkle."Hello!"she mews."This is Legendclan and I call myself Legend.Would you care to find out about my clan?"You either sit and introduce yourself or say goodbye and pad off.Either way,the path is yours. [p] ****Welcome to Legendclan! This has been my creation and unformed clan since 2012.Pretty old,eh? I call myself Em,rper/cat colifeform. ;D The camp is at "the old camp" result three,if you care to join. This used to be the camp, untill it got spammed!:) -Em -

Infinitykit (will post a new one each ceremony)

Infinitykit is a deep black kit with shocking purple eyes. She is shy and wary, not wanting to trust the cats around her, but she is very kind and loyal. She is four moons old and already knows how to hunt and survive, but she is lonely. Her biggest dream is to become a leaper and gain the name InfinitStar, but she knows it will never happen. A moon after she was born, her family was killed by a fire. She and her sister escaped and her sister taught the kit how to survive before dying by a falling tree.
