Meet the Author

THANKS FOR VISITING MY PAGE*****MY STORY 'CUTS' TO BE PUBLISHED IN 'THE COLORED LENS', WINTER 2014********** ONE YEAR ON SMASHWORDS --> OVER 8300 DOWNLOADS --- THANK YOU ALL*****Here's some stuff about me; if you want the stories they are down the page.I'm a writer of mainly horror, science-fiction and fantasy stories, and live with my wife and three cats in County Durham, England. When I'm not being a full-time registered carer, I enjoy writing, reading, watching films and TV, drinking good beer with good friends, and collecting rejection letters.I've always liked fiction and at school wrote lots of bits and pieces, including an attempt at an Adventure Game Book called "Demon Fish". At about eighteen I started writing a bit more seriously and wrote around 40 stories in a year or two. Some of them were published in small press magazines "Cthulhu Cultus", "Dark Legacy", "Dread", "Pop Fiction", "The Domain", "The Ancient Track", "Blue Silver Dementia"; e-zines and websites, "Frightnet", "Nightscapes", "Dark Portal", "unHolyTower" "alt.ghoststories.", "Writers Dungeon", and "Raise The Dead".Then the writing went on hold for about ten years. In 2012 my friend and fellow writer Jonathan Strickland inspired me to do something with these old stories, so I'm currently working on converting and tidying up my old work from my trusty Amiga to the PC, before it is lost to time. And in the last year, I am writing again, trying to catch up on a boat-load of new ideas. I'm also doing occasional work on a pulpy horror novel, writing book and film reviews, thinking about a horror-short-story-reference work, and fiddling about with a blog. I am now beginning to submit my stories to markets again, both print and on-line publications. My first success of this new phase of writing is my short story 'Cuts' which will appear in 'The Colored Lens', Winter 2014 Issue. My influences are mostly in the genres in which I write and include H.P.Lovecraft, Stephen King, Clive Barker, Clark Ashton Smith, Thomas Ligotti, Angela Carter, Harry Adam Knight, Poe, Saki and many more.I'm very much enjoying publishing my work on smashwords, and reading other people's work, and reading the reviews of my readers. Feedback is very much encouraged.Of the stories here, UNCONTAINABLE, BLUE, DREEK MIDWINTER and EYE CHECK are the most recently written, while HUNTING COMP and CONS go back to the mid 1990's.Thanks to all who have downloaded, read or reviewed my stories. Like most writers [some don't give a hoot], any feedback is very important to me, and I appreciate every review.Any comments, queries, or correspondence can be sent off to mickcarter1978@gmail.comEnjoy.The next story to be published here will be [probably] Oblivious.
