Overview

Noodleheads, brace yourselves! Laurie Berkner's fourth album breathes new energy into her already soaring career. This guitar-wielding songstress has won over the hearts of parents and kids alike with her brand of folk-pop for tots. Under a Shady Tree offers fans a bit o' reggae with the title track, some Hawaiian harmonies on "Mahalo," and an action-packed a cappella "Drive My Car." Berkner also adds a bit of polish to her typically tasteful mix, broadening her sound and her appeal with electric guitars, organ, trumpets, and ukelele But the charismatic former music teacher really stakes her claim with two toddler triumphs: "Running Down the Hill" -- a song that blossoms with fantastic, flowering imagery and Berkner's own flowing vocals -- and the clap-happy "I'm Gonna Catch You." Infectious and impassioned, both tracks are sure to remind listeners why Berkner is so often referred to as the Ani DiFranco of the preschool set. The slow tempo and simple sentiment of "Smile" and the harmonious "After It Rains" are perfect picks for naptime. But Berkner has not forgotten her super-silly beginnings, as reflected in the quirky "Do the Dragon" and "Song in My Tummy." Plus, the southern-flavored "Shortnin' Bread" never sounded better, with sweet vocals and lighthearted piano that will have kids cuttin' the rug in no time. Bolstering a powerful repertoire of smartly conceived silly songs and seriously impressive vocals, Ms. Berkner has scored another direct hit with the monkeybar mob. She went on to receive a number of awards, including the 2002 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award and the 2004 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award.

Laurie is one of those rare artists who can appeal to children AND adults- without being condescending. My husband puts on Laurie's CDs as much as our daughter does! We were excited to get this album, as we'd basically worn out the other three, and it did not disappoint! As usual, Laurie delivers songs that you cannot get out of your head. "Drive my Car," "I'm Gonna catch you," the rhubarb pie song...This is a really well-crafted album from a fantastic singer/songwriter, and it definitely stands out among all the overly sugary, cutesy kid's fare out there. A++!!!

We have been big Berkner fans from the beginning, and I don't know what that other person who liked the compilation Cd but not this one was talking about - this is so much better than any other kid's music and it ties for our favorite along with Victor Vito. Yeah, she added some cool instrumentation here - does that make it less 'campfire-y?'

we have been fans of laurie's from the very beginning and she has really come into her own here. it's more sophisticated in a way, but still appeals to our kids more than anyone else. highly recommend.

This is a wonderful cd for children and their parents. My husband and I enjoy listening to Laurie Berkner's music just as much as our daughter does. Highly recommended.

I first saw Laurie on Noggin and was immediately hooked! Her songs are catchy, encourage movement, are easy to remember, are original, and are my whole family's favorite music. We play this repeatedly in the car and never tire of it.I plan on purchasing the whole collection!

I first heard Laurie when my son was watching Noggin. I was in the other room and heard the catchy tune called "This hat is my hat". Having been a music major in college, I loved the harmonies and the tune. When I looked, my son was singing along and dancing. I was hooked. I bought this disc and now my husband (also a past music major) and my older son (age 13) love it too! Thanks Laurie, for creating music the whole family can love and enjoy sharing together...sure makes those long trips much more enjoyable, and helps the younger generation enjoy and appreciate good quality (and fun) music! "My hat" is off to you! Thank you!

I have 4 year old twin boys who absolutely love Laurie Berner. Their favorite song was "We are the Dinosaurs" from a different album but now...by far this is their favorite album. It gets them singing and dancing. "I am Gonna Get You" is a favorite from this album and our boys always want us to chase them through the house when this song comes on. Such great fun!

When my husband, who is in a rock band, will sing along with my daughter's music, you know it's good. The songs are catchy and danceable, and we all just love listening to it!

I bought this CD on a whim and absolutely love it! My 4 year old daughter was familiar with Laurie from watching Noggin and was very excited to hear Laurie's other songs. My 1 year old son is a big fan and loves to listen to the 'car' song repeatedly. The good news is that adults can listen to this too, not your typical kids CD that you can't wait to turn off!!

I first heard of Laurie Berkner and her band on Noggin where she was playing in between different children's shows. I bought the Shady Tree cd first and have since purchased all of the cds that are available. My daughter loves all of the songs and has all of the songs on the Shady Tree cd memorized. It is quite funny listening to a two year old sing Hot Commodity.

Great music for the whole family. Perfect for passing time on those long car rides.

I don't know what it is about Laurie. We discovered her on the Noggin channel when they started playing Victor Vito. Needless to say we were hooked. We eventually bought her cds and these are great. Grownups find themselves singing the tunes as well. I think many have tried to copy her, but Laurie and her band are the best of them all.

This is the third copy in use in our extended family. I had to buy another copy 'cause my daughter snagged the one I had after she heard it. The grandchildren, ages 1 though 6 all love to hear this in the car. My daughter and I both love to sing along, and I especially like to sing the harmonies.

I'm so glad I discovered Laurie Berkner! Traditional kids songs can only go so far. Laurie's music is fun, catchy, entertaining, well produced, and best of all, the topics are excellent for teaching your little ones about life, behaviour, feelings, the world around you, having fun--you name it. And she even does some of the classic kids songs too. I hate to admit it, but I even listen to her CD in the car when I'm by myself. I never get tired of it!

After a four-hour road trip with my 1.5 year-old son, I am hooked on this album...my boy was swaying and clapping to the music in his car seat and my husband and I found ourselves singing along. Great beats, wonderful lyrics...just downright great music.

We love Bumblebees and Googleheads so much that we got so excited to find that there was a new release. Laurie Berker lost her cute campfire music appeal by entering the studio.
