Bethany Farmer is just a typical every day girl. As a hardworking, coffee drinking, soccer playing student, Bethany has learned to hide in the shadows of romance and relationships. It is not until the good looking foreign exchange student Allein Atwood takes notice of her that Bethany finds her life turning upside. With his pickup lines and curious ways Bethany finds it hard to resist Allein's charm but is unaware of the underlining secrets that make up who he really is and why he would call a small Midwestern town home. Black and white graphics make up the pages of the novel enhancing the plot of the story and making it simple for the novice graphic novel reader. Color graphics are also incorporated brilliantly within the novel to enhance a major moment within the story while also grabbing the reader's attention. As the fourth novel in the "My Boyfriend is A Monster" series, readers are able to enjoy it without having read the previous installments. Reviewer: BriAnne Baxley, MLIS

Although the books in this series stand separately, they all follow the same formula: girl meets an attractive, unusual boy who seems too good to be true; girl finds out boy is a actually a supernatural creature, albeit one with a heart of gold; girl and monster boy team up to kick the butt of evil, but must then sadly discontinue their romance because they are from different worlds. Thankfully the authors add a few twists and surprises so the stories are not totally formulaic, but it must be said that these graphic novels will most likely appeal to readers who prefer their supernatural romances to be predictable rather than offbeat. That said, these books do have much in their favor: they are written by experienced comic book authors; the illustrators do high quality work; the empowered female leads are far superior to the damsels in distress we often see in such tales; and the books might appeal to reluctant readers due to their length. Probably the biggest hurdle book selectors will face in deciding whether to purchase books in this series is the price. With each slight volume costing nearly thirty dollars, this series will have to be a strong optional purchase unless demand is high at your library. The high cost is due to the sturdy library binding, though, and perhaps some selectors will not mind paying extra, knowing that these volumes should circulate for a long time without falling apart. The deciding factor will most likely be the level of appeal of supernatural romance with your teens; if they have moved on to dystopias, you can safely give this series a pass. Meet the Author

Marie P. Croall lives in Cary, North Carolina. She has written for Marvel, DC Comics, Moonstone Books, Devils Due, and Harris Comics, and has completed a self-published graphic novel and a short film. Marie has spent much of her life reading fables and legends, and enjoys discovering new things about different cultures.

Hyeondo Park was born in South Korea and moved to Dallas, TX, when he was 10. He is a recent graduate of the School of Visual Arts in NYC with a BFA in Cartooning/Illustration. Hyeondo illustrated manga adaptations of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Shakespeare's Julius Caesar for John Wiley & Sons, and illustrated Sam & Lilah for the acclaimed webcomic site ACT-I-VATE.     simple

    I'm new to manga and feel a little lost in the story for me. Could be because I started out with #4 and if I had read the others would not be lost.
    Bethany Farmer is a high school soccor player. She is focused on school and soccor not boys.
    Allen is the new student from a different world. He is Fae you do notice his ears right off. I don't know why he had feathers trailing him and how he started looking in Bethany window. He tries to talk to her at school and she tells him he is wasting his time. Her friend tells him that she likes soccor. So he shows up at her practice and walks her most of the way home and then takes off.
    Allen has 3 cousins who are trying to kill him so they can be King next. They are bigger than Allen and one is a tracker.
    Bethany ends up helping Allen fight his cousins.
    Its a fast read because their are a lot of simple drawings. This makes 2 I have read and I like more words in my stories. So not for me. I was given this ebook in exchange of honest review.
