Ada Rovatti is a fluent post-bop tenor and soprano saxophonist with attractive sounds on her instruments, a creative improvising style, and plenty of spirit. She leads her quartet through seven of her modern mainstream originals plus the standard "They Can't Take That Away From Me" on Under the Hat. Trumpeter-fl├╝gelhornist Randy Brecker and guitarist Mike Stern are strong assets on three songs apiece though Rovatti is strong enough never to be overshadowed and percussionist Don Alias helps out on "Stuntman." Ada Rovatti's "Under the Hat"

This CD is a must for contemporary jazz listeners. The intricate solos and tonality are fabulous! The tracks have a profound spontaneity and drive. The compositions and arrangements are concise, fascinating and direct. It is worth noting that given the participation of performers such as Randy Brecker, Mike Stern,Don Alias, Jill McCarron, Nikki Parrott and Steve Johns the melodic and solo interactions are incredible!
