Under the Linden Tree is the story of a vanished time and a vanished sensibility. Marianne Parsons finds herself faced with a decision she never wanted to make. Now she must struggle against the propriety that once held her in a comfortable embrace. Now she must ask herself questions that her family - and her own past - have not equipped her to answer.

This new author writes with a sure touch and a quiet, confident voice. Her plot is intelligent and beautifully crafted and her characters ring true in thought and action. I look forward with anticipation to reading her next novel and, if we're lucky, many more by Ms. HirschWas this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Simply superb. "Under the Linden Tree" paints the perfect picture of Victorian life, balancing magnificently and authentically the daily happenings of a New England family with the more tense and sinister atmosphere that surrounds an unfortunate circumstance. With language and characters rivaling those of the Greats (Jane
Austen's, in particular), this book is a must-read.
