Overview

Under the Orange Umbrella explores the relationship with self, love, humanity, and mortality. In poems often written in times of betrayal and loss, a tone of strength grows from a seed of despair. Themes of love, sadness, learning, and freedom are depicted as Dove, Raven, Owl, and Sparrow. Eight years of poems translate to more than a coming of age; they are an umbrella of change.

About the Author

Rachel Lyman grew up in Stillwater, New York. As a child, she enjoyed using her imagination; talking to trees turned out to be more enjoyable than talking to people. At eighteen, she joined the United States Army and served four years as an intelligence analyst. During her time in the service, her passion for writing poetry bloomed. Rachel now lives in Colorado, where she continues her never-ending search for the perfect cup of coffee. Under the Orange Umbrella is Rachel’s first book.
