Overview

Nestled between the Atchafalaya Basin and Sugar Island lies Bon Amie, a friendly, quiet town, where nothing exciting ever happens. Until Joelette Benoit's two sons find a man washed up in the murky water at the edge of the swamp.

Joelette Benoit, a widowed single mother, has sworn to never believe the promises of another sweet talking man. Fiercely independent and determined, she's hidden away her heart, while struggling to provide for her two sons and lively mother-in-law. She swears the stranger will stay one night, and one night only, until she discovers he has no memory. Now duty-bound to aid him, Joelette decides to offer him a place to heal in exchange for his labor.

Against the colorful backdrop of life on the bayou, she watches as he immerses himself not only in her family but also in her town. She can do little to prevent her sons from bonding with the only man they've come to trust since the death of their father. Though she, too, is drawn to his kindness and vulnerability, she will not risk the heart of her family because without a past, this man cannot promise a future. But when his memory returns and he realizes he has blood on his hands, he knows he has unfinished business to attend to before he can claim the family he has grown to love.

    Plot spoilers

Why do people feel the need to spoil the books with their overly excessive plot spoiling reviews? We have the overview that tells us all we need to know. We do not need you to read the book, then regurgitate it back to us like we are too dumb to read it for ourselves. Just a few lines to say if you liked it or not is enough. You do not have to brag how you got it free from the publisher or author.

    An excellant read

I loved the story. The way it was written kept me reading. The characters were made so real and loveable, yet Joilette could get you riled a bit. You have to read for yourself. I went looking fo her next book and it isn't there. Hurry Hattie Mae.

    Good read

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Set in Louisiana's bayou country and featuring a single mother, her charming young sons, and feisty mother in law. All wound up with a mysterious man with amnesia. A few typos, but not too bad.

Great story. I like how the main characters did not fall in love instantly. You felt as if you really knew these individuals. I totally recommend this book.

    Definitely recommend

Love this novel set in the cajun town of Bon Amie. The characters were so real I felt I knew them well. Romance & a little mystery, lots of cajun food (I could smell it) a good mix & a good read. I will look for more of Mae's novels set in Bon Amie.

    Good book

I loved the story, the characters but hated the setting. I would hate to live in a swamp. I loved it and would recommend it.

    Around 300 pages.

This book bugged me. It was a Cinderella romance, only Cinderella had two sons, one trusting and one a hater of men, just like her. Of course the man was a perfect speciman of manhood, right down to the millions in his bank account. She was gorgeous, poor and even though she worked hard and made ends meet, she felt she deserved more, much, much more and as long as she was boss, every thing was fine. This book centered on distrust and amnesia. The plot has been done to death. I had high hopes for this book, too bad, it bottomed out fast. The author never really cleared up what the first husband had done, other than being poor, promising a better life, but being unable to achieve it, and telling his son, he was man of the family now and not to cry. For me, this was not worth the effort. I wish a gator had ate everyone but grannie. The book would have been better. For ages 16 and up. Who the hero is, was the only mystery, a rather annoying romance. This book is very clean. No adult content.

    Great read

I loved the story it was very captivating and the connection u feel with the characters is amazing .... but i got 2 complaints ... 1) it needs better narration, many sceens where so close together they could b confussing and 2) it needed a better ending! Or at least an epilogue ..it felt unfinished

    Tugged at my heartstrings...

There sure is something special about the charm of a Lousianna bayou, and this book really captures it. I fell in love with these characters and turned page after page, crossing my fingers in hopes that they could work it all out. The sweetness of these life lessons brought tears to my eyes. :)
*there were a lot of punctuation mistakes and places where scene changes needed to be more obvious, but it was still a great read.

    A great read

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Author has gift of taking her readers to where her story took place. Obviously born and bred southern...how else could author be so right on target with depicting bayou country, cajun & everything louisiana!
    Would def recommend.
