Overview

Jay, middle-aged and recently divorced, seeks solace from life's recent upheavals by taking a brief post at his alma mater, St. Andrew's College. The title refers to the insulated setting in the book: Part one opens in the school's potting shed, part two is an early morning confrontation in the basement dining room, and part three finds Jay visiting his son, a recovering drug addict, at Rookery State Hospital on Christmas day and attempt to resolve their lives over the basement pool table.
