As the name suggests, Spinna's focus here is on the underground, with mostly independent artists represented. DJ Spinna knows the terrain well, and Underground Forever is straight heat from start to finish, with rare and largely forgotten gems from the likes of L the Head Toucha, Basement Khemist, Non Phixion, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Saukrates, Money Boss Players, and Spinna's own act, Jigmastas. At the same time, a lot of the joints included on this 2010 release were prominently featured on compilations that came out at the time (see Premier's New York Reality Check 101 and Stretch Armstrong's Lesson series). Nonetheless, this fact shouldn't take any joy away from listeners just discovering the 1990s underground movement, nor from those longtime boom-bap fans nostalgic for the glory days. Meanwhile, commercial rap enthusiasts will likely be most intrigued to find one of Eminem's first wax appearances guesting on the Old World Disorder track "3hree6ix5ive."
