I spent years away from my parents, and after returned to my hometown I can see that they have declined in mental faculties; especially my father. I have two young children, and now the prospect of caring for two aging parents. I was almost hopeless until I came across Understanding Alzheimer’s. I’ve read the book twice already and have highlighted almost the entire book. I don’t look forward to what’s coming, I think I’m prepared.

I lost one grandparent to Alzheimer’s in my youth, and in just the past few weeks my grandmother was diagnosed with the disease. Besides being a little forgetful, she’s not showing any symptoms of the disease. I’m glad I came across this book at this time, it’s helping me and my families cope and prepare for what is coming. Understanding Alzheimer’s is not technical and so easy to read, understand, and follow. I recommend this book to any family suffering through Alzheimer’s.

regarding what a caregiver can expect and great information on how you can help someone with
Alzheimer’s. Book does a good job of helping caregivers set reasonable expectations for themselves
and understand why they need other people involved in the patient’s daily care.

Until I read this book, I was not aware that Alzheimer's affects more women than men and that it has risen sharply just
in the last decade alone.  This book is a very good source for those who have a loved one that has been diagnosed
with the disease, or for those who simply want to have a better general understanding what it is, how it affects people,
and the challenges and sensitivities that affect all of those who live with someone diagnosed with it.

Understand Alzheimer’s is a very informative book and is definitely recommended. When you’re in a situation of a loved one who may have Alzheimer’s and it’s your first time being in this type of situation, this book is a great one to choose from. In my opinion, this book has more information in it than anyplace else, the Internet being one of them. Alzheimer’s is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States so in my opinion, I would take that very seriously. Alzheimer’s disease is not a joke.

After reading the first few pages you clearly feel the empathetic, yet informative stance that this book takes.  Moved by the encouraging,
support-centered material and the meticulous organization, this text wholly elaborates on every detail in understanding the consuming
illness that is Alzheimer’s.  Opening by explaining basic relatable questions, it then delves into the choice of becoming a caregiver
along with all the issues, essential steps and best management tips for that experience.  It comprehensively explains the seven stages
of Alzheimer’s disease and then breaks down what to expect in your care giving role along with common challenges.
This book covered everything a caregiver needs to know about how to take care of someone with Alzheimer’s and yourself, also.

If you've ever had a family member or relative diagnosed with this difficult disease, then this book may be a good starting point for figuring out  what comes next. Understand Alzheimer's acts as a road map of sorts detailing what may happen with the disease and how you can cope.

The book offers suggestions on ways you can deal with some of the feelings you may be having and even empowers you by suggesting you take control and become a caregiver if you feel you are up to the task (there are a series of questions and tips should you decide this is what you'd like to do).
