Wiggin's framework for curriculum design is one that every teacher should apply. Too many teachers 'shoot from the hip' with no real idea of their curriculum's destination--and, hello, that is why we have No Child Left Behind! Read thoughtfully and carefully, this book will revolutionize your pedagogy!
Absolutely love this text book! It is so enjoyable to read.
This book is a very detailed approach to lesson planning. It is heavy reading in parts, but very worthwhile. In today's world of accountability, this planning process is vital and required!
This is a good book BUT this is not a book to chose if you have no ideas about what instructional design (ID) is or what the components of planning effective curriculums/courses. This is NOT an introductory book BUT it is not difficult reading. I bought this book thinking it was an introductory book, but it is not. I highly recommend reading an intro to ID book and then use this book as a complement. This books strong point is proposing a new way to do ID--- which of course cannot be appreciated if you do not know what it is (hence this is not an introdcutory text) via a three step and very detailed process. The book also defines the 6 components of understanding and how to flush them out in lessons/activities and assessment. This book isn't well organized BUT the information is very good. I would have read the chapters in different order. I would read 1, 4, and 7 first and then the rest of the bok in order.
The authors seem to think that no teacher starts anything with a plan in mind, but instead randomly teaches concepts. If you are looking for a reminder of how to plan, it is useful.
