Children's LiteratureIn America, we take our rights for granted. These rights include the right to free speech, the right to be free from fear and the right to an education. Current news has make it clear, however, that not all countries view these things as rights. The author of this book, part of the "Global Citizenship" series, believes children in this country should be aware of the plight of children in other countries. The book handles very complex issues, like human rights and the UN declarations on human rights, in an easy-to-read format that makes them easy to understand. Many different types of texts are used, from standard expository to personal case studies to charts and graphs. The book is different than some of the others in the series because the subject is harder to put in a positive light than some of the other issues. Combined with its comprehensive glossary and index, this book is and excellent examination of an important issue in today's world. 2004, Smart Apple Media, Ages 9 to 12.
