Overview

This text provides hands-on activities and practice exercises to supplement a standard introductory statistics course. Topics include data collection and summarization, probability and probability distributions, and statistical inference.

The three components of the workbook include:

  • Laboratory Activities: 24 hands-on activities that are designed to practice quantitative/statistical thinking with group work, data collection, and analysis. Some activities require additional resources such as dice, coins, toothpicks, and tape measures.
  • Practice Exercises: 128 practice exercises are provided as homework assignments or group work. Solutions are not included with this practice set.
  • Review Exercises with Solutions: 32 review exercises are provided with fully worked-out solutions. This may be a good resource for students who would like to test their knowledge and gain immediate feedback, as a practice resource before assessments, or for the student who needs to see one more example before feeling confident to strike out on their own.

The authors have additionally developed an open-source inquiry-based set of course notes to supplement the text. Together these materials provide an affordable and interactive set of materials for an introductory statistics course.
