Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

There is something contagiously appealing about dogs underwater. The adult edition of Seth Casteel's Underwater Dogs pictorial drew oohs-and-aahs from even the most cynical readers and early viewers of the kid's edition seem equally unable to conceal their weakness for submerged canines. (P.S. This version includes the color photos that made the adult edition famous, but it doesn't simply duplicate its predecessor. It includes new photographs and memorable rhymes, too!)

School Library Journal
12/01/2013
K-Gr 3—More than an adaptation of Casteel's adult book (Little, Brown, 2012), this edition features more than 30 full-color photographs that show energetic divers of different breeds, from American pit bull terriers to Yorkshire terriers. Casteel used a digital SLR camera with a fish-eye lens to create remarkable underwater portraits of these dogs, their heads overly large, eyes wide, ears back, and mouths open. They look out at youngsters through splashing water and a cascade of air bubbles as they pursue favorite toys in swimming pools. A simple rhymed text accompanies the pictures. "Grinning, happy, full of joy,/You just found your favorite toy!" The book closes with a spread showing small black-and-white photos of the dogs on land with information about their breeds. This title is sure to bring lots of smiles and some laugh-out-loud moments to young dog lovers.—Mary Jean Smith, formerly at Southside Elementary School, Lebanon, TN

    Excellent

The big problem here was getting it away from my sister and back to my niece! Both loved it! The pictures are wonderful, weird and funny. The write ups on the various dogs and breeds were great. I can't imagine a kid NOT loving this book. And you may have to pull it way from the grown ups first!

    Delightful photos and text

I've purchased this for four children from ages 3-6, both male and female, and all have delighted in it. It's high interest for kids who have or like dogs or swimming. The photos are comical, but I think they might be a little-looking for children under age 3. The text is great for early readers.
