Overview

Forty percent of adult American men have sexual problems at some point in their lives. The women they love are often just as bewildered and dismayed as they are. Now, for the first time, a prominent sex therapist with more than fifteen years of experience offers these women clear, concise advice on helping their mates and restoring sexual fulfillment to their relationships. Addressing the full range of sexual dysfunction, from premature ejaculation, loss of desire, and impotence to fetishism and sexual addiction, Eva Margolies takes women into the male mind to examine the roots of sexual problems, showing how women may unknowingly make them worse and how a caring partner can be crucial to overcoming them. This invaluable book discusses the personality traits and physical characteristics associated with many problems, as well as how to react when they first occur, and what never to say to a dysfunctional man. And it provides insights into whether a problem indicates larger issues that need to be confronted in the relationship. The author recommends specific exercises that can be used to deal with common problems, and there are guidelines to determine those situations where professional help is needed. Groundbreaking, compassionate, and filled with fascinating case histories, Undressing the American Male is for every woman who wants a fuller understanding of her sexual partner and herself.

Nearly half of all men in America have suffered from sexual dysfunction, so it stands to reason that many women have encountered a man with a sexual problem. In this revolutionary book, sex therapist Margolies takes readers into the mind of the dysfunctional male and explains how the problem may have started and offers tips for dealing with the problem.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
While numerous books are available on male sexual health (e.g., Bernie Zilbergeld's The New Male Sexuality , LJ 6/1/92), this book is specifically written to help women help men with sexual dysfunction. About 40 percent of adult American men experience a sexual dysfunction at some time in their lives, and the most common types of dysfunctions are described here, along with practical solutions and exercises. Advice on when to seek professional help is also included. This new work from sex therapist Margolies, director of the Center for Sexual Recovery in New York City and author of four other books (e.g., The Motherhood Report , LJ 6/15/87), deals matter-of-factly but sensitively with the subject. Perhaps the book's real value is as a vehicle to develop understanding, empathy, and compassion for men suffering from sexual dysfunction. Essential for human sexuality and health collections. Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 2/1/94.-- Dana L. Brumbelow, Auburn P . L ., Ala .
