Overview

Tasha Skinner finally shed the baggage of a failed marriage. Now, she’s looking forward to a night of margaritas and man-bashing. Tasha’s friends have other plans, including Leather, Lace and liberation.

Dylan Caprese didn’t want to go to Marquee, but he and his friends were on a mission. They took it upon themselves to make sure things didn’t get out of hand when wannabe Doms mixed alcohol with playtime at the monthly Leather and Lace night.

From the moment he set eyes on Tasha, he knew there was something different about her. She wasn’t some bondage babe who thought she knew what it meant to be into BDSM. She was much, much worse; she was innocent and trusting. He can tell she is something precious.

When Tasha’s past threatens to destroy her, Dylan begins to realize that while their paths have never crossed, their lives most definitely have. Will he be able to save her before it’s too late?

I really, really liked this book, but didn't quite fall into all

I really, really liked this book, but didn't quite fall into all-out love with it. The concept was good, the characters were solid, and the writing was superb, but something just held me back from "clicking" with it entirely.

Tasha Skinner is a young woman who just got out of a very bad marriage. She married her high school sweetheart and then allowed him to control and manipulate her during their ten year marriage. While he wasn't physically abusive, per se, he was very mentally and emotionally abusive and belittling. He pretty much made her damaged goods. She has a hard time trusting men, and is very insecure and hesitant in everything she does. However, she allows her best friend Holly to drag her out to a "Leather and Lace" night at a local club to celebrate her divorce. It is there that she meets Dylan Caprese who takes it upon himself to save her and her innocence from the depravities that are going on inside the club. The story takes off from there, and has several interesting twists and turns along the way.

First off, I had a hard time liking Tasha. I felt sorry for her and admired the small bursts of spirit and sass that she showed, but for the most part she was weak. I wanted to see her grow more, and become more independent and self confident. Towards the end of the book she did take a few baby steps, but I wanted to see it develop earlier in the book. (view spoiler).

Dylan was an amazing character. I never really thought that I could find a bald man sexy, but damn! That cover is all kinds of hot. Plus his alpha-male, Dominant tendencies paired with the tenderness and patience that he shows Tasha make him the most perfect man ever! Zeke and Tommy were definitely h-o-t also, and I'm really excited that the next book will focus on one of them. Holly, I hated from the beginning. She just came across as so selfish and self-absorbed to me that I couldn't understand how Tasha so adamantly maintained that they were best friends. Maybe she'll redeem herself in a future book. Meh.

My second semi-disappoint with this book was the lack of more BDSM focused sex scenes. There was a little bit, sort of an intro course if you will, but from the x-rated cover and the blurb I was expecting (and hoping for) a lot more! The lack of hard core stuff fit with the story line and Tasha's journey and her innocence, so I can't complain on that front. I have to admit that it probably worked better with the story and with Tasha's trust issues for it to be as tame as it was, but I guess it's just my inner perv coming out that wanted more, lol. I wanted more x-rated steaminess between Tasha and Dylan!! Oh well, maybe it's part of Sloan Johnson's evil plan to lure us in a little at a time. If that's the case, it worked! I can't wait to pick up the next book to see what happens.

I also wish that the story had been fleshed out just a bit more. There were a couple of things that were mentioned briefly that I really wanted to go back to in more detail. For instance, it is mentioned that Dylan owns a tattoo shop. Would that happen to be the one that Tasha goes into at the beginning of the book? Just what all exactly is Dylan involved in since it is apparent that he is rich? At one point, Tasha also mentioned having to go to brunch with her family, but it never comes up again. Did she blow them off, or did she go and not mention Dylan? Seeing more of her family life would have been nice. For instance, would they have approved of her getting back out in the dating world, did they know what kind of relationship she had with Nick, etc.? Dylan also mentions a couple of times that he wants to hire Tasha to come work for him and be an integral part of his company. I would have liked to see this conversation take place, if not her go ahead and come work for him. Maybe in the next book.....

I was also able to predict the ending from pretty early in the book, but even knowing what was coming, it was still a good read. Overall, I did like this book and would definitely recommend it to everyone looking for a good read. Can't wait to read book two in the Isthmus Alliance series and see what happens next!

    Disappointing

From what other reviewers wrote, I thought this was going to be a great read. Boy was I disappointed. The characters were weak and the amount of time spent on their thoughts was so distracting, that I found myself skimming over pages to avoid them. The sex was nearly non existent and unrealistic. If you want HOT, try Olivia Cunning or Maya Banks.

    Holy mother of Hotness!!!
I just started reading Erotica in the past 6-8 months but I’ve read quite a few. This book has immediately jumped to the top of my list. The sex scenes were steamy but I like that there was a love story as well. I really get annoyed with books that just spew out a bunch of sex scenes and unrealistic “relationships” pop up out of nowhere and the whole thing doesn’t make sense. This was NOTHING like that. There was depth to the characters and you get a sense of family and loyalty from Dylan and his group of friends. There was also a bit of suspense and mystery in the book which I enjoyed.
Dylan…..well that’s all that really needs to be said if you’ve read the book. He is one giant piece of sex walking. I never really saw the appeal of a bald man (even younger ones) but it totally works for him. He just exudes confidence and sexuality but at the same time he’s fiercely loyal, protective, and not afraid to show his emotions when he deems it necessary.
Tasha is damaged and has little self esteem when she first meets Dylan thanks to her ex-husband and his emotionally abusive treatment of her. There were times that she would talk down about herself and I wanted to give her a smack. I loved how not only did Dylan look out for her but his group of friends immediately welcomed her as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I absolutely can not wait to read Unexpected Protector (Book 2) about Tommy! Awesome job and I am happy to give a 5 out of 5 rating on this!!

    Mixed bag... er, book

There were things about this book I really liked, but I had to go down to 3 stars b/c I never FELT for the heroine and kept waiting for the relationship to come together more, be deeper. I really liked all the side characters a lot and got invested in all the friendships. I just wish the main relationship had been fleshed out more.

This is the first book I've read by Sloan Johnson but won't be the last. It was quite mild for a BDSM book but was still HOT. The characters were well developed and I really loved the way Dylan and Tasha are together. The Isthmus Alliance was introduced in this book but only hinted at being a D/s club. I'm looking forward to learning more about it in future books starring Zeke and Tommy,two2 other alpha males introduced in this book. This is a full length book not a glorified novella and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it

    Loved it!

I loved this book. I've noticed some have complained about the lack of kinky sex but I totally disagree! This book didn't need all that to me. (Don't get me wrong there was HOT sex just not the really kinky f#*kery) I've enjoyed my share of kinky but that's not what this book is about. It is perfect just the way it is! I could not put it down and read it in a day. Can't wait to read Zeke's story!
I've found another great author to follow. I will definitely recommend to my reading buddies!

    Amazing Beautiful Story

Unexpected Angel is Amazing.! Sloan Johnson is truly an gifted writer. From the first page I was hooked. I was drawn to the characters and they kept a hold of me throughout the entire story. Dylan is well, HOT! He is gorgeous, sexy, and a total alpha-male, everything I love in my book boyfriends. He knows what he wants. He wants Tasha. She's awesome too. Coming off a bitter divorce she is ready to start her life over and willing to take a chance on this sexy god of a man.(which I so kept Alfie in my head the whole time!!!) Their chemistry is insane, you can feel the heat as it intensifies with every page.
Sloan Johnson's writing talent really shines through with this book. I totally felt like i was there. And when it's all over you want more. It's a standalone, but you just want more, more of Dylan and Tasha, more of Their friends who deserve their own stories as well. If I can't connect on some level with the characters, or I have a hard time finishing the book. In this case I just did not want it to end! I read this in one sitting. I could not put this book down.
I highly recommend Unexpected Angel by Sloan Johnson and I am very much looking forward to Unexpected Protector!!!!

Like most of the readers I know, after experiencing a certain BD

Like most of the readers I know, after experiencing a certain BDSM book last year, I found myself gorging on books within that genre, but never finding the same feelings I experienced with the first book’s series. More and more BDSM books have been patterned after that infamous series but have I had not found that emotional connection until Unexpected Angel.

(Sigh) Ah-h. How refreshing! What a relief to finally read a book of this genre that shows the love behind the actions that goes along with the BDSM lifestyle. Unexpected Angel took me by surprise! I didn't expect the fresh take on the BDSM relationship that it has. Dylan is a Dom, former band geek, and has a talent for picking out clothes for a woman that make her body look Fab-u-lous! That being said he is not the stereotypical Dom that I have become acquainted with in other books. His protective, nurturing and commanding behavior is one that is so appealing. He can take control but does not need to use force or intimidation to make the connection between Dom and Submissive.

“I’m here to protect girls like her from the freaks who think they’re anything like me.”

I can relate to Tasha in many ways with her innocence and lack of confidence after being disappointed by the people in her life who were supposed to love her. I understand why she is cynical when it comes to positive attention from Dylan, which at first, puts her off. It is hard to believe that something this good can be real. Over time she had constructed walls around her to protect her from the hurt and from all the bad that surrounded her. But these walls made it impossible for something good to be let in. With all her comments of “…I don’t belong to anyone….I’m not yours.”

Dylan is determined to break down her walls brick by brick if necessary for he saw her as “…precious, something to be cherished.” He never pushes her to a point that has her running for the hills, but does just enough for her to bend, not break. He knows what is good for her even if she won't’ admit it herself.

After reading just a few pages I was so drawn into this book I messaged the Author and told her she had me tied up in knots! (Pun intended) I was totally emotionally attached to this story. To say I loved this book would be putting it lightly. This book satisfied the emotional fasting I had been experiencing when it came to these types of books. I loved his protective nature that was so intimate, I am sure I was blushing as I read. I love books that are love-based and have a HEA ending. This book fulfilled those needs and then some. I can't wait for the next book and to read more about Dylan and Tasha’s story in Tommy’s book, Unexpected Protector.

Wow. I LOVE THIS BOOK! Unexpected Angel is awesome! Sloan Johnso

Wow. I LOVE THIS BOOK! Unexpected Angel is awesome! Sloan Johnson is truly an outstanding and gifted writer. From the first page (or rather screen on my Kindle) I was hooked. I was drawn to the characters and they kept a hold of me throughout the entire story. And this is one HOT story! Dylan is well, HOT! He is gorgeous, sexy, and a total alpha-male, everything I love in my book boyfriends. And he knows what, or rather who, he wants. And he wants Tasha. She's awesome too. Coming off a bitter divorce she is ready to start her life over and willing to take a chance on this sexy god of a man. Their chemistry is insane, you can feel the heat as it intensifies with every page. Keep a glass of ice water and some extra panties nearby while reading this because you're going to need them!
Sloan Johnson's writing talent really shines through with this book. As a reader you feel as if you are there, you laugh, you cry, you scream, you possibly want to hurl your Kindle across the room. And when it's all over you want more. It's a standalone story so there is no worry there, but I mean you just want more of her writing, more of Dylan and Tasha, more of the supporting characters who deserve their own stories as well. She tells the story beautifully and to me that is a huge draw. If I can't connect on some level with the characters or they aren't believable to me, I have a hard time finishing the book. In this case I just did not want it to end!
I highly recommend Unexpected Angel by Sloan Johnson and I am very much looking forward to her future stories as well.

This book was AMAZING.. Seriously AMAZING.. I wasn't able to put it down! I read it in less than 24 hours. I love the development of the characters and their relationship. It's very smooth and well written.

I love Dylan and his dominance. He leads Tasha in a way that is unexpected for all the BDSM books that are out there. He is easy to fall in love with to for the way he cares for Tasha.

Tasha has had some issues in her past with her ex and boy do we get surprised again and again about things in her life.

I don't want to give too much away but this is a MUST read..
