Maddie’s life had changed from the day she gave her virginity at sixteen to her first real crush. The experience was not all everyone had built it up to be and not only that she ended up pregnant. She made the decision to have an abortion and never told the guy responsible, she swore that she would use men the same way they used women. Years later her life has become one of commitment phobia and one night stands However one night at a frat party her easy going attitude got her drugged and almost raped. The only thing that saved her was the intervention of a friend and the help of and an unbelievable man. His quick thinking and medical assistance saved her life.
Hunter is every woman’s dream man. Handsome, sexy, protective and caring are just a few words to describe the incredible Dr. G. I. Joe. Hunter is currently in ROTC and enrolled as a pre-med student at the same school that Maddie attends. He wants to get to know the feisty woman that has captured his heart. Will the attempted rape and attacks on Maddie keep him from getting the girl of his dream? He knows that he must go slow and take each step forward slowly, but she is worth it. Can Hunter be the man that Maddie needs? Will he keep her heart safe?

Would I recommend this book: Yes! Love is not always easy and sometimes the path to happiness is difficult to stay safely on. This book has love, loyalty and the heartbreak of not knowing sometimes what the right thing to do is. Read this incredible love story and find out how two people worked to make it happen.
Would I recommend this author: Yes! This is a must read author that has not disappointed me with any of her books.

Oh My Gosh… I was lucky enough to read book 1, Unreliquishing Liberty, and book 2, Unforeseen Heartbeat back to back. I highly recommend this. The characters from book 1 are carried over and have big parts in the second book. This can be read as a standalone, but knowing the history will add so much to the story.
Maddie is broken. She is sassy and sweet, but not so trusting when it comes to men. She has put herself into the thought that she will never meet the right person, so one night stands are her only option. Then she meets Hunter. He refuses to have a one night stand, showing her how much more she deserves. I cannot decide if I like the almost sex scenes or the actual sex scenes better, they were both absolutely amazing.
Robbie, Maddie’s gay roommate, was one of my favorite characters. With him and his boyfriend walking around naked most of the time, I was laughing at all the nicknames Maddie was able to come up with for him. Their friendship was perfect. He took care of her like only a roommate and friend can. Standing by her when she didn’t know which end was up and helping her find her way to her happily ever after. I am hoping Maureen Mayer will share more of Robbie in future books in this series.
I definitely recommend you read this book.

This was another great book in the Second Chances series! I absolutely loved the characters and the story line had me interested from the very beginning. This wasn’t just a story of love but also one of personal growth. I instantly took to Hunter and Maddie’s story.
Hunter and Maddie made an awesome couple. Hunter is a pre-med student in the ROTC program. He’s sweet, sexy, protective, and brings out the best in Maddie. Their personalities really complimented each other. I loved it when he teaches her how to shoot and self defense. It was really awesome to watch her become confident in herself. Their banter is hilarious and so is the way they interact with their friends. The personalities in the whole group are unique but they all get along and have a great time. I’ve definitely become attached to all of them.
I feel invested in this series and the characters. I really look forward to the next book in the series. The book flowed really well and I found that I had to force myself to put the book down so I could get other things done. Fantastic characters and well written story line lent for a great read. This was a wonderful 5 out of 5 stars!

Another poorly written book by Maureen Mayer. Her overuse of adjectives and ridiculous descriptions are actually funny. There are many words missing in sentences which makes it difficult to understand. She uses many words incorrectly -ie. regiment instead of regimen and the word smirk. Nobody ever smiles in her story, everyone smirks. Doesn't she ever proofread her books before publication? Most character interactions include eye-rolling, winking, smirking and the word UGH. I really don't understand why she throws in words like synchronously, carnality, rapacious and exponentially.
I'm pretty sure her readers do not know the meaning of these words and they really don't fit in. The overuse of swear words is also not needed. It's difficult to get past the poor writing skills of the author especially when the story line is so weak and repetitive. Her characters are superficial and boring. The sex scenes are too pornographic and leave nothing to the imagination. The author should learn to subtlety. That would make the sex scenes more real. Overall, the book is quite weak in all areas.

An Well-Written, Emotional Tour-de-Force.
Maureen's second novel is incredible! The plot and character development are exceptionally well-done, and the dialogue expertly crafted. Maureen shows-off her chops as an author as she conveys tension, romance, and humor so vividly. Using the strengths of the characters, the story is carried-on at a quick pace, with no details overlooked.
This book can be read as a standalone novel, however, spoilers are present for those who have not read Relinquishing Liberty.
Buy this book! You won't want to put it down!
