Overview

A notorious rake is about to make the ultimate faux pas—fall in love with his own wife.

Gil Truman has eyes only for the beautiful Tilly—until he is forced to marry plain, sickly Rose Davenport to reclaim the lands his father foolishly gambled away. After a disastrous wedding night tainted with his bitterness, he deposits Rose at his remote Northumbrian estate, soothing his guilt with the thought that she need never lay eyes on him again.

Five years after the mortifying wedding night that destroyed all her romantic fantasies, Rose is fed up with hearing second- and third-hand reports of Gil’s philandering ways. She is no longer the shy, homely girl he left behind, but a strong, confident woman who knows how to run an estate. And knows what she wants—her husband, back in their marriage bed.

Gil doesn’t recognize the bold, flirtatious woman he meets at a ball, with or without her mask. Yet he is bewitched and besotted, and their night together is the most passionate he has ever known.

But when he confesses his sins to the beautiful stranger, the truth rips open the old wounds of their blighted history. Threatening any hope of a future together.

Warning: Contains a flawed hero who can be redeemed with the right woman—the one who’s been under his nose the whole time. Ain’t that just like a man?

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
“The intrigue and mystery surrounding Georgiana’s legitimacy is a fantastic storyline. The chemistry and the romance and the tension is off the scales.”
—Romance Books Forum on The Lady’s Secret

“I enjoyed The Lady’s Secret, a book that mixes old and new genre conventions in interesting ways. In one sense it reads like a love letter to many older trad Regencies, but with a progressive streak that updates and adds new dimension to vintage tropes.”
—Dear Author

“Nathan was such a great hero. When it came down to life in the ton and love, he chose love, and how could I not love that about him?
The story is quite lovely, as is the writing. It’s a fantastic story and one definitely worth reading.”
—Tracy’s Place Reviews on The Lady’s Secret

I cannot remember when I've read a more wonderful book!  A few typos, but not enough to complain about.  This story is so moving; I smiled, fell in love, cried, and anguished over this couple.  This is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last.  Don't let this one pass you by!

At times it dragged. There was no epilogue. The book would probably been better if it was shorter...at times it really dragged and I lost interest. I felt like the chemistry between them was very lacking. There were no hot passionate scenes that drew you in.. let's just say there love scenes were lacking for me couse of the lack of chemistry. And I can't stand a women so easy to forgive for leaving her for 5 years. Then just jumps in bed with him knowing he doesn't even recognize his own wife he meets at a ball and then takes her home to sleep with him..really. I would be pissed. Not to mention she knows he is and was sleeping with half the ton in there 5 year marriage. Usually I love story's like these but this was just not that good.

This book was simply wonderful. It has emotion, drama and stubburn love most of all. The best kind. I could not put it down. On my historical romance top list.

I have found if I don't like the hero and heroine, I won't like the book. I finished the book but was not inspired to seek further books from this author.

Excellent! This novel has one of the best story lines I have read in a very long time and it is exceptionally well written. It is a deeply moving story that I could barely put down once I started reading it. This is a book I will save for future reading pleasure again. The only problem I had with it was an infrequent distasteful use of a few four letter words that did nothing to add to the story.

I enjoyed reading the story if Gil & Rose. An unexpected situation forces them to marry, and then the terrible Gil leaves her 300 miles away, she's young, sickly & very hurt. He then becomes a man about the town- no shame, and making news worthy affairs a regular mention in papers that even Rose sees. She is brave enough to go after him and the story takes off! Rose truely blossoms, and Gil gets it! Well written, almost 600 pages, and budget friendly under $5. Will look for more from this author. G
