From the Publisher

Praise for TOP 8:

"Smartly written and totally accessible...wonderfully fun. The author has her finger on the pulse of teens today and is certain to please many of them." -- SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

“TOP 8 was a book that I didn’t want to put down once I started reading…." -- Teensreadtoo.com

Children's Literature - Laura J. Brown
Unfriended is the third in the "Top 8 Novel" series. Madison MacDonald knows firsthand how important technology can be to relationships. She almost lost her boyfriend Nate, because her so-called best friend, Ruth, hacked into her on-line account and posted all kinds of lies. Once that was resolved, she was put in charge of the school's priceless heirloom and it accidentally fell into the wrong hands; but she and her friends were able to recover it. Now summer is finally here with school forgotten and friendships mended—but nothing is exactly the way it was when she was totally enchanted with Nate and him with her. What Madison never expects is that someone's jealousy of her friendships and great relationship with Nick would lead to on-line blackmail. Madison does not want Nick or her friends to get hurt by what Isabel, the girl who is so jealous of her, will release about them on the social network. Isabel has had the aid of Justin, Madison's relative, in stealing private information about Madison and her group of friends. Madison breaks up with Nate and "unfriends" all her of friends so that Isabel will not post all their personal business online. Madison feels betrayed yet again and totally defeated. She is isolated and alone. Will Nate and her friends be able to understand what she has done if she is ever able to prove that Isabel is behind it all? Readers should take this message to heart and always be mindful about what they post online. Reviewer: Laura J. Brown
VOYA - Nancy Pierce
Madison MacDonald and her network of friends are looking forward to a great summer. Madison especially wants it to be memorable, because it is the last summer she and her boyfriend, Nate, will have together before he goes off to Yale and she starts her senior year in high school. Social networking keeps the group in communication at all times, and a new trick "Constellation" notes their location. All this technology is great, but there is a downside. Isabel, who resents Madison for ruining her life at prom, obtains hacked information that can hurt all of Madison's friends, especially Nate. Can Madison protect her friends without losing them forever? Unfriended is an engaging read, made all the more accessible for young readers with the inclusion of messaging and photos of the many characters. Teens will enjoy getting to know the circle of friends, their way of chatting, and what they are up to (at all times, it seems). There is a variety of characters that readers will recognize from prior books by Finn (Top 8 and What's Your St@tus), which is fun; but not to worry if you have not read them —readers are caught up with the necessary backstory for Unfriended. The story is all Madison's, and she is a character most readers will like, even with her seemingly perfect life, many friends, and great boyfriend. When Madison realizes she might lose them all, she appreciates the value of friendship, and regrets sometimes taking them for granted. Maybe this light book has a serious message after all. Gr 8–10—In this series installment, Madison and her friends are thoroughly engrossed in the world of online social networking while surviving the double-crossing, trickery, and teenage angst at their Connecticut beach scene. This time around, an old foe who is blackmailing Madison for revenge requires her to dump her boyfriend and her friends, threatening to expose important secrets if she doesn't comply. Facebook-like status updates are scattered throughout the text. The writing is mediocre, and Finn spends a lot of time on a backstory that, while extensive, is likely to leave readers new to the series confused. When not rehashing earlier events, however, the plot moves quickly, and most teens will forgive the novel's faults and enjoy it.—Lindsay Cesari, Baldwinsville School District, NY

    Awesome Book

This is the most awesome book I hage ever read! If I could, I would rate it six stars. It took me only two days to read this book. I just couldn't stop reading it. Something interesting was going on the whole time; I never got bored of reading it, not even once. I'd recommend this book to almost everyone on Earth (who can read, speak, and understand English)!
